Accidentally stumbled upon this while looking at Black Major stuff on Ebay. This is the figure I've wanted since the late 80's, when Billy became apprentice to Storm Shadow and started to become awesome.
I'm not an opener (not anymore, of course), so to me, card art is just as important as the figure itself, and in this case, even more important. I had the Collector's Club Billy, and was so disappointed in the card that I later sold it (although I should have waited a while, since he's pretty valuable on Ebay now). But, just wanted to flex a little. I have my Protech Star Case ready to go, as he'll hold a place of honor on my wall. |

Cool man, is there a significance with this figure? I don't do bootlegs so excuse my ignorance. I know I have seen another "ninja Billy" at shows but I don't think those are the same as they seemed pretty common at one point.

Introduced in the comics very early on, Billy was Cobra Commander's son, who ultimately became a fairly significant character despite never receiving a figure. He was ultimately incorporated into the VAST ninja storylines that would underline the GI Joe comic series pretty much to the present day.

Card art is what did it for me. Like I said, the Collector's Club had a nice figure but looked awful, and I don't know why they gave him a submachine gun and grappling hook when a sword set / backpack would have been nicer.

Yes, I got all that, my question was more about why this particular figure became a "grail" to the OP. As I stated I don't collect or hunt for any of the various Bootlegs so I was unsure if this particular Billy was some HTF one and done or a full blown factory knock off done by the 1000s. Not saying there is anything wrong with it being a Grail for the OP one way or another. I just personally only collect Vintage and Modern US releases and I tend to look right past just about anything international or "factory customs". So my knowledge is a bit lacking on that end. Awesome. So it was more about owning the better version of Billy on a nice crisp cardback. That card art is great and I agree that the club definitely made some questionable choices when it came to their Billy (among many other figures). I would imagine that is was due to them thinking they could reuse the head for the Ninja version in the future but obviously never got around to it. Hopefully Hasbro will give us another and hopefully it will be in the 4in scale.
