If they would do such a thing for any reason, it would be to ensure that Target remains satisfied that this line is a worth investment. If units sat on Pulse collecting dust, that would be a bad look. In the case of viper and firefly, however, there was zero chance that was going to happen.

Short answer: No.
Long Answer: Still no. The bottom line is that retailers and Hasbro underestimated how popular the line would be (because their last experience with Joe was a line that dwindled off), and that led to scarcity on the Target Exclusive products that created a hype train (and a shitstorm) that shows no sign of slowing down, and has caught up some of the non-exclusive product in the wake of it all (though usually you can find/preorder them for mostly-reasonable prices SOMEWHERE if they're not exclusives). As I've stated elsewhere many times "bumping up production" is not as simple as people make out, and overstocking Hasbro Pulse at the expense of retailers would likely get Hasbro in serious trouble with the folks that actually pay them directly: Their retailer partners. Basically a whole bunch of circumstances collided to make it somewhat harder to get ahold of Joe Classified product in the last year and a half than it might ordinarily be, and it may still take another year or so for everything to balance back out. I'd posit that by early-mid 2022 we may well be sitting around bitching about how many pegwarmers are sitting on shelves now. Last edited by Jmacq1; 04-23-2021 at 09:30 AM.. |

no, they are just complete jackasses when it comes to doing exclusives and distribution. I've found that since tru is going that buying toys in a box store is a fruitless effort, and just plain aggravating. No conspiracy... ...just..plain....bullshit.
thank god for bbts or i just wouldn't even buy new figures anymore..

Drive up demand and interest, then eventually flood the market with them before the bubble bursts. It's like a trendy new restaurant that no one can get into but it's packed with "elites" every night. People will be sour grapes about it and say, "Well I heard it's not very good" but once opening become available, they'll be first in line, tweeting and taking pics of their food.
Then it becomes mainstream and no one goes there anymore unless they genuinely love the food. And that's who will be buying Classified in the long run - those of us that genuinely love G.I. Joe. |

Man, didn't think history could repeat itself SO LITERALLY.
I remember all this same bullshit 14 years ago when 25th Anniversary rolled out, including a fuss over some Target exclusives. Clearly, almost nobody else does and forgot what happened with GI Joe at the end of 2008/early 2009.

2002, for all its issues, was quite successful :p
