Definitely don't paint yourself into a corner. What I mean is, don't say, "I only collect 82 to 94" or "No Classified" or anything like that. At some point down the line, you'll see something you really, really like, then have to talk yourself down from buying it. And that's not fun. Get what you like and don't do impulse buys.
And the KonMari Method really works! |

Oh, I thought you said Konami! Seriously though, that's am excellent point. I set literally that exact rule for myself for years, and now I'm overpaying for all of the late ME I missed.

And the KonMari Method really works! 82-86, non swivel arms, swivel necks, modern sculpt, 6" do not bring me joy. what a weird statement. |

Not really. My tastes are a bit different, but I really don't care for pre-'85 myself. I still collect them, mostly due to the figures mentioned above and the fact that my shelving is laid out with room for them. Having started as a kid in '85 or '86, I find the sculpts and articulation of the earlier figures to be too rudimentary. That doesn't apply to the vehicles though- when I still collected them, I felt as though they got better the earlier in the line you look.

right, but i said what i like, and this rando said it was weird, then recommended the marie kondo method which is exactly what im doing.
i have seen lots of negative comments of 87-91 figures, just because they're not the "more military" 82/83, 84-86 periods. my wording of "compartmentalized" was off; i'll give you that. Last edited by THEDARKONE508; 04-14-2021 at 10:18 AM.. |

I think he was more referring to the figures you miss out on though; even with my mild disdain for the earlier stuff, I couldn't imagine not wanting the '84 Firefly and Storm Shadow figures or the V 1.5 Cobra Commander in my own collection. You also miss out on what I'd consider the definitive Snake Eyes, as well as the three most iconic Cobra troop types, but that's just me. I personally was in almost until the end when the colors began to get crazy, and I'd say that in terms of just the sculpts, the 90's were the best. Of course, all of that neon really screws that up. '90 and '91 are two of my favorite years, they were at the height sculpt quality, the colors were more subdued, And we got some really great characters from that period. That period also includes some pretty ambitious accessories too, even if some of them don't stay together very well G.I. Joe was different things to different people, and there's no right or wrong way to collect, despite many considering others to "not be a true Joe fan" because others' tastes don't align with their own.

these dorks that say it's not military enough after 87 also love the shit out of snake eyes and storm shadow and get arashikage tats on their arms. because ninjas are so military.
i usually mention i collect out of that, like post 91, and some figures that are older. it's just not the meat and potatoes of my collection. |
