The Corps went downhill when Walmart quit stocking them and Willie got pants. Hasbro could flood the market with GI Joe if they had any real desire to. The Corps are survivors though, like cockroaches, they’ll always be around. I love the Corps brand, mainly for nostalgia. I got a lot of them for Christmas as a kid, and I’d buy em with leftover allowance money to use as canon fodder for my Joes. There’s no telling how many Willie’s and Large Sarge’s that got their asses blown apart by firecrackers or tortured under a magnifying glass on a sunny day.

It's a knockoff, but somehow, yes, Corps won  . You could say it's the only bootleg/knockoff that has kept going, showing Hasbro that if they had really wanted, there would have been always 3.75 inch Joes in the shop, same way as Barbies or Hot Wheels have been there uninterrumpedly.
That doesn't mean, that as far as I know, global is something to be taken with a pinch of salt. Maybe in the USA have been always there since the 80s, but for example, in Spain, they were basically only 1987 to 1995, to disappear absolutely until the new ones appeared, about 2010, at least in a general way. In the UK more or less in some way or another they have been there uninterrumped, but during some years very sparsely. What it seems, is that now somehow, Chap Mei has lost strength (at least in Europe and for what I can see around) and somehow Corps has gained on that.

The new classified figures reveal.
Although in my opinion The Corps won a long long time ago. They have always had their sales up and have been selling since the 80s to their target audience. GI Joe keeps dying and rising, and dying again, while lanard lines like the corps and related movie lines are taking the advice of the Gee Bees and staying alive. Just because the corps are selling "worse" figures doesn't mean they lost it means they know their audience. |

Just because the corps are selling "worse" figures doesn't mean they lost it means they know their audience. Lanard has the benefit of being a smaller company focused on action figures whereas Hasbro is a multibillion dollar franchise with several different toylines to focus on which is why GI Joe does not get allocated resources, energy and effort as say Star Wars or Transformers. Let's not forget that Hasbro bought Kenner which effectively killed the Joe ARAH toyline due to internal conflicts and politics - something Lanard does not have to worry about. I'm not at all making excuses for Hasbro and do wish there was more dedication to the Joe line but it is what it is. I am glad to see new Joes being released although not in the same scale I collect - I just want to see the brand continue on and enjoy a resurgence in pop culture popularity. The Corps! will never reach the levels of popularity. I really would love to see the sales numbers for Lanard the corps! - just curious to see how much product they move especially with the absence of other 4" scale lines. |

I think the licenses were weak. Kong? Rampage? Not sure kids or adults even like those movies. Alien and Predator changing the scale ruined it for me (for me, just my personal opinion). Jumangi would have been a hit if they would have made figures of all the characters (which I know would be expensive). Top Gun would have been a hit if they would have produced a real Top Gun Jet and if the pandemic wouldn't have postponed the movie release date. I'll say again, I have some Lanard items in my collection and the items I have are pretty cool. The license grabbing reminds me of Mego back in late 70s early 80s when they passed on Star Wars and tried to grab up every other license they could. Kudos to Lanard, I wish them continued success.

sorry, scratch that.
i like lanard's KING KONG, but not the full line, as much as i like the lanard aliens prior to changing the scale inexplicably. really, the best way to have a proper godzilla vs kong is to have jakks' big godzilla and lanard's kong - because you arent getting that with whatever shit that is on the shelves for that movie now. |
