The origianl post really bothers me for some reason I can't quite articulate. From the description, it seems the kid is really bent out of shape. Can't sleep, disturbed over "fake" GI JOES. It just seems sad. I feel for the kid. I know a lot of people REALLY hate ROC and everything it is, but it just seems a shame that a kid has to go through that. ROC is what it is, It's a new version of GI JOE for a new generation. No matter how much JOE fans bitch about it, there's no changing that its here. Oh well, to each his own.

No worries. Most of these types of threads just go to alienate JOE fans from each other.

I may be in the minority (as usual) but I really don't think Xsoldier meant to stir up a hornets nest. I got what he was trying to say and it's real sad it went down hill from there. I don't come to the Tank to start trouble and throw my two cents in whenever I see fit. However, these battles between us has got to end. I don't know Xsoldier from a hole in the wall. I'm not friends with him and today was the first time I heard the name but if somebody doesn't step in and call a truce this site is doomed to fall sooner or later.

My son just turned 8 and I tried to explain things to him, but he was so angry at the wolverine origins movie (he loudly commented on all the continuity errors durring the movie.)
His point of view are that Duke, ripcord, breaker, Hawk, look nothing like any of their other incarnations. He thinks they should have given them different names. I have a Final tonight, but this weekend I will help him write his letter and I'll add it to this thread. I have to side with my son though, even different versions of Superman, like the dead beat dad one from the Singer movie, are garbage. Continuity is our friend. And how the hell was Superman a dead beat dad? |

Im not trying to start any crap with you 82joe but it seemed, atleast to me,that you kind of started the whole back and forth with gunslinger, when you couldve just let him state how he felt, its not like he qouted you or had something to say about a topic you started. It seemed like you took what he posted so personal when you probably shouldnt have. You even kind of came at another dude for simply agreeing with gunslinger. I understand you had good intentions but you was the one that initiated the back and forth. Like I stated, Im not trying to start any crap but I honestly felt this should be brought to your attention.

Wow, I thought I was posting a really cool story, and it turned into this. He didn't loose any sleep over this thing. What 8 year old wants to go to bed in time. Their little brains are always going. He's 8 and wants a Zandar or a Cpt Grid Iron figure and he believes that they should be made for him. He said something about it. I personally don't care if he watches the movie, I was bummed out the wife didn't let me take him to it. I liked the movie, I buy the RoC toys. He just put in his own perspective and noticed changes and stated he didn't like them. Then he wanted to be as proactive as wanting to write a letter to the "company that makes GI Joes" he doesn't even know what Habro is.
I really don't know how people twisted something that was supposed to be awesome into this mess. Why am I proud? I'm proud that he likes the other story better. I'm proud that he isn't a brand loyalist sheep. I'm proud because he wants to try and do something about it. How many letters from 8 yr. olds to you think the GI Joe Division really recieves? probably none. They probably just have a bunch of angree fan-boy rants and raves from guys over 30. The fact is that I'd still be just as proud of him if he told me that he liked RoC better and didn't want to play with the "old guys" any more. I thought my story that I shared was supposed to show that the stories and characters we grew up with are good enough to be timeless. (well about 60% of them at least IMHO) I think that by having young fans from the 25th wave is important, because those are the figures most joe fans want more of, especially some wild bills. Sorry this caused such turmoil and anybody even had something negative to say about a story like this. I would definately call it TROLLING Why do people even bother to post when they have nothing positive to contribute? I just have to assume that some people's moms must not have taught them, "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." I come here for fun and right now this feals like a town hall meeting about healthcare reform. |

Yesterday, my son and I went to the store. He couldn't find any of the movie figures that he liked. He showed great disaproval for the celebrity look alike Joes and doesn't even want to see the movie because it just has a bunch of "fake" GI Joes in it. I asked him what he meant and he told me that Ripcord wasn't right, breaker looked like a whole other person, and that covergirl had red hair and this one was ugly. He also said he didn't like the rocket launchers because they were as big as the figure. My son is 8.
He has read some of the comics and watched all of the Sunbow and DIC episodes. (my wife says he's not allowed to watch Resolute or ROC because of violence...moms, go figure) But because we play with all the 25th stuff and the ARAH toys from my childhood he has a familiarity with the toys. I thought it was awesome myself, but I had to go to the store later at night and when he went to bed he told my wife he couldn't sleep. Seems he was pretty upset, he told my wife that we need to write a letter to the people that make GI Joe and tell them to stop making Fake GI Joes. He says that it isn't fair that parents are going to buy kids the fake ones and his friends tell him they are real. He told her he wanted to wake up at 0630 (yes we use military time in my house) so we could write that letter first thing, because it just has to stop. I really am proud of him, and I tried to explain to him that they would still make one that he liked, we just have to pick them out. He told me that they all just look dumb and that they should be Iron Man toys. I just wanted to share this with my fellow tankers, I think I'm going to give him an assault on cobra island 7 pack when I get home. any child that holds that kind of knowledge deserves a 7 pack....... knowing is half the battle!!! yo joe |
