Of all the issues I read, the one that stuck out, that I can remember, was issue #66. Seeing Storm Shadow team up with Snake Eyes, Scarlett and Jinx to bust out Stalker, Quick-Kick and Snow-Job from the gulag.
I even remember trying to do the ninja hand signs that is shown in the comic. |

While the Cobra Civil War arc is my favorite, but #11 is my favorite from a nostalgia point of view. The introduction of NEW joes and Destro. Almost everyone was in the issue, then there was that commercial tie in with the new figures and the polarbear.

No comic will ever top #21 for me, it's just perfection. But 26 and 31 would round out my Big Three. Also loved the atoll issue with the multiple storylines, the second "silent" issue with urban camo Storm Shadow, the Snake Eyes trilogy, the introductions of Zartan and the Dreadnoks, the return to the Silent Castle with Slice & Dice, and the issue in Latin America where Recondo collects the Dragunov rifles and tosses them in the river.

Issue 55 for me.
It was the first issue I ever really saw and legitimately read. Every summer growing up I'd spend a couple weeks in the summer with my grandparents. During those times my grandpa would take me to this old school barber shop and that issue was always on the waiting table with other super old magazines. I read that issue every time we went there for years. |

Issue 7
I think it was the very first Joe comic I read, got it at a newsstand in Newark airport when getting home from vacation. The storyline and interactions between the Joes and Oktober Guard just seemed so intense and memorable considering it was aimed at kids who collected the figures.

For me, it was 53, "Pitfall". I originally started reading as a kid with #48 just before the time of the Serpentor's origin arc, so #50 also deserves an honorable mention as the battle of Springfield. I think I like #53 slightly more since the I believe the cartoons were coming to an end near the same time, and the comics were so radically different than the cartoon. #53 stands out to me as a good example of showcasing Cobra as a real threat where the heroes could lose. Special Missions #2 is up there as well with the Nazi bomber in the ice loaded with nerve agents just as a well-written side mission.
I will also say the dogfight issues (GI Joe #35 and Special Missions 5) are near the top of my list as well. |
