Hi! Can anyone help me in identifying this Cobra airship? As far as I know it only appeared on the animated movie and the arcade. Does somebody know its official name, if a toy of it was ever released, or if it appeared in the comic or series? Thanks inadvance!

It was never released, it was a "dream toy".

I was able to repurpose this Batman vehicle into something close.

I have heard it referred to as the Trawler, Cobra Heli-carrier and Cobra flying Fortress.
Definitely a dream toy. I think the only shot of ever seeing this as a toy would be Haslab. But regardless of cost I would buy it.

A similar Cobra airship appears in the original MASS Device mini-series. Jim Sorenson and Bill Forster's GI Joe Field Manual Vol. 1 dubs it the Trawler, like truejoefan mentioned. I don't know if that was the actual internal name, or one they came up with more recently.

Thanks for the replies! When I was a kid never saw many episodes of the series, but always rented the movie on VHS, so this was the only piece of GI joe fiction that I was familiar with. I always thought that this ship was the main Cobra air vehicle and that was featured prominently in the series, but it seems that is an obscure vehicle.

Hasbro actually has both the MASS Device mini series and The Traitor on its YouTube Channel, if you want to see the ship in its other appearances. MASS Device Pt. 1: MASS Device Pt. 2: MASS Device Pt. 3: MASS Device Pt. 4: MASS Device Pt. 5: The Traitor Pt. 1: The Traitor Pt. 2: The airship shows up in Pt. 4 of the MASS Device and Pt. 1 of The Traitor. Also worth noting that Cobra has another airship in the season 1 opening, but it looks completely different. |
