Meanwhile, I have a couple questions for anyone who has actually read "Invisibility Island" by Lynn Beach: 1) Are the Crimson Twins ever mentioned in the story? (Because I know the Crimson Guard are.) 2) Does Cobra Commander make "facial expressions"? And if so, how? BTW, if the answer to #2 is "yes" ... there's no way to sugarcoat this, the author's credibility has to be called into question. *Summed up in these three short posts (by Dreadnok Twins): https://www.hisstank.com/forum/5347531-post9189.html https://www.hisstank.com/forum/5347532-post9190.html https://www.hisstank.com/forum/5347834-post9214.html

I think it would be cool. Not as a target exclusive. I think you could make it with only sculpting a new head for both and a couple of shoulder pads for Zarana. Most of Zandar could be made using either Zartan and/or Gung-Ho parts, and you could moderinze Zarana by using mostly baroness parts with a few additional pieces.(Thinking you could have a dark or possibly chainmail type shirt underneath the torn pink one for protection.)
I'm fine with them being twins. It actually adds to their characters, especially since no one did much with Zandar. The file card was even written in such a way to excuse it. I wonder if Larry didn't like the idea of Zartan having a brother, thinking it takes the uniqueness away from Zartan. He seems fine with Zarana as Larry has always had strong women in his books. |

Lol before I even opened the thread I knew who the OP was.
As far as a two pack goes I would buy it for sure and I am sure anyone who missed either would jump on this set as well. Now as far as this debate over them being twins goes. I have never read that particular book so I am not sure how deep it dove into the characters back story but I can see where others would question it being Canon. I will also say anything that that shit bag AS did is absolutely not Canon and should never be mentioned again. Now I will agree that it makes sense for them to be twins based on the overall design and slightly less so based on how they were portrayed in the Sunbow series. I personally like the idea and have considered them twins since the 1st time you brought it up here many many years ago. If I remember right, at one point you reached out to Larry Hama to no avail? So I decided to do the next best thing IMO and reached out via Facebook to Ron Rudat. I consider Ron and Larry the fathers of Arah as Larry may have been the man behind the stories Ron was the man behind the the bulk of character designs. With any luck Ron could give some insight as to his mind set when he was working on the pair. Edit: Ron Responded a lot quicker than I expected. He doesn't recall his mindset when drawing up the designs and he said that if anyone would be the man to ask it would be Larry, Since he was the man behind the back stories. Wish I could have been better help but it was worth the shot at least.

This is interesting because in my joe verse, none of the Zs are blood related. They’re all adopted.

I’m curious now about what made you believe that they are twins in the first place.

Invisibility Island was written by Lynn Beach, which is a pseudonym for author Kathryn Lance, who is practically an octogenarian now living in the Tucson, Arizona area, and volunteering her time teaching about reptiles at Tohono Chul Park on occasion. While she seems very intelligent, that book assignment might have been the singular time she interacted with the G.I. Joe properties or characters, and she might have just made up some details which she knew nothing about.
Quote:
I would liken Kathryn Lance’s made up details about the characters to that of Stephen Sommers in 2009 with his G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra film in which the Baroness (sister of Cobra Commander) was going to marry Duke at one point. While that film was fun and entertaining, how many of us were convinced that those characters are siblings now and forever?
Quote:
I’ve heard mention of Fred Van Lente, but have never read any of his comics for the year that he worked on a G.I. Joe title. Is his work pretty solid, in your opinion? Others had told me it is, so maybe someday I’ll get around to reading it.
Quote:
The opinion of the infamously denounced comic book writer, Aubrey Sitterson, holds much less respect and authority than nearly anyone who has interacted with the G.I. Joe property. His name seems to get much the same treatment as Voldemort does. I wouldn’t believe anything he writes, but others are free to make their own opinions of his work.

I'm only here for the ninjas and the bad guys with cool armor and masks. I never cared about the relationships between most characters, whether romantic or familial. I thought it was stupid to give Zartan siblings at all, cause it diluted one of the best characters in the franchise. I only really remember two compelling "romantic" stories in Larry's run....and they both ended in tragic death. Ripcord and Candy, and the White Clown and Magda. Larry could be ice cold when he wanted to be. |

Wrong again. And it’s these ill-informed guesses about the intentions of what others write which might be the cause of these erroneous theories of yours.
I remain skeptical of this theory regarding Zarana and Zandar, and have stated why I still have my doubts. Quote:

When asked, Larry Hama answered that he does not believe they are twins. When asked, Ron Rudat answered that he has no memory of them being twins. And whenever asked, I openly state that I don’t know if they are twins or not, but I doubt that they are, any more or less than I doubt that Zartan, Zarana, and Zandar are triplets. There are already several sets of twins among the existing G.I. Joe characters. Zartan, Zarana, and Zandar are each interesting characters on their own, and would only be less interesting if they are made into triplets or twins in my opinion.
