I always wanted yojoe.com to add a feature where you could click to see which other figures came with a certain part or accessory.
That would have been really sweet.

The WHOBIT does that already, but that functionality isn't present in the main archive. I agree, it would be a good and logical addition on the figure pages.

Oh good lourd. They are over hear crying about how they have resigned and the website no longer belongs to the GI Joe community because Vertical Scope is some sort of monster.
No mention of that the fact that they SOLD the webpage in the first place. |

Right. That's kind of what happens when you sell your equity in a business. You lose the ability to influence it. If they cared about maintaining the integrity they should not have sold it.

(According to WOJM), I understand that Terry did NOT own it, and therefore did not sell/profit from it. He tried to maintain admin abilities and even buy it from them...

Seems like the biggest problem with redesigning a new site to replace it would be redoing the photography. But they should be able to "crowd source" it. If every Joe collector sent in photos for a few figures the could build the library up fast. The YoJoe photos look like they would benefit from an upgrade anyway. And we definitely don't need a "watermark" on the photos. Even if YoJoe went defunct completely, it would be impossible to rebuild the site from the internet archive as something new due to the watermarks.
They could skip various bells and whistles on a new site like the forums and the "collection tracking." No need to retype out file card text, just have a photo of the file card. They might lose some of the variant card pictures and international variant info, but I'm sure 99% of what people want is the basic U.S. release info. It would be easy to design a database from scratch where every accessory and even body part of the figure is stored separately, and you could then click on each one on the site to bring up a list of every figure it's connected to. Designing the database to be flexible from the beginning is what makes adding features to the site much easier later. I could design a good SQL database to base the site on easily. Step 2 would be plugging in the pictures and step 3 would be designing a web page to display it all, which is the most time-consuming part. Last edited by JediJones; 11-19-2020 at 12:01 PM.. |
