Thanks bro. I don't do social media outside of these toy collector sites and had no idea. I use YOJOE often for both selling items on ebay and restoring vintage Joes.

I was wondering what was going on with that site. I have used the toy database religiously over the years but I noticed it hadn't been updated in awhile.
That site could use a major refresh/overhaul. Truth be told, I am in the process of working (starting work) on a new GIJOE fan site and I'd love to take a crack at creating a solid reference for the toys. I just don't really have the time I need to really devote myself to it right now. |

As far as I can tell, all Vertical Scope does is buy up hobby forum websites and sell ads based on their traffic. If I had to guess, I'd say they have no interest in updating the code or improving the content. They probably just want to sell ads without incurring any costs outside of hosting and domain name registration fees. Web development costs money. Giving outsiders access to modify content and mess with the forum entails risk (damage through sabotage or simple incompetence, for example). If they can cryo-freeze the website and just let it coast and still make money on ads then that's absolutely the safest and most profitable way to run it for "today." They'll worry about "tomorrow" some other time (if ever). If the site traffic dies off and ad revenue plummets they'll sell anything left of value and move on. It's kind of like companies that buy out other companies just to sell off their capital assets and eventually the brand name itself, only here it's with a website and they do a little Weekend at Bernie's routine first. Or Silence of the Lambs, whichever you prefer.
Once YoJoe was sold to an ad-cramming company like Vertical Scope, I think that was a wrap. Just a matter of time. Or maybe I'm being too dark. Who knows? Time to build your own website, guys! Or get 3dJoes to fill the void on accessory lists, information on figure part origins, and develop a WHOBIT that's actually complete and useful. The king is dead, long live the king!

I signed the petition because of my appreciation for the site but would love to know 1. Why they sold the site? Was there an agreement in place for the original owners to maintain it? 2. What/if anything Vertical scope plans to do with the site? Also it wouldn't hurt if someone reached out to HCC788 or Formbx257 because they are probably the two most respected vintage collectors out there. Last edited by HitandRun; 10-16-2020 at 05:14 PM.. |

The data at YoJoe.com is already saved, many times over, on the San Francisco based nonprofit library of the Internet Archive.
Using “The Wayback Machine” today, I was able to navigate through the data at YoJoe as a test in case Vertical Scope were to ever shut off the website without warning our community. This petition is misleading in some ways, because it is actually requesting restoration of administrative privileges for a particular person to the website. It does not change the previous contractual agreements which RedClaw told us about last year, so even if the administrative privileges were instantly restored, what do we expect to change? We still haven’t been told by anyone why these administrative privileges were withdrawn in the first place. That would be a good thing to know before signing a petition.

No, not exactly. I'm saying it's in the hands of mercenaries and I highly doubt anything will come of this petition. I am also saying YoJoe has had its own shortcomings anyway, so it might be better to have an improved replacement step up rather than have the fans trying to wrest control from a faceless, disinterested ad monger.

How about a merger of some sort between the tank and yojoe.com? Some of us probably have the skills to pull it off. Money wise I don't know, maybe some of our youtuber tankers could chip in, or we have a bake sale

I am really curious about a lot of the details that are not being mentioned here. Like why YOJOE was sold in the 1st place. Details of said sale and all stipulations involved. In all honesty it sounds more like Yojoe wanted to reap the benefits of selling off the site but somehow also wanted control over its content. Which seems a bit off to me, like 1 they were either so completely gullible they just bought into when ever non-sense the buyers told them just to get the papers signed or 2 they sold it only thinking about the check and are now wallowing in seller's remorse.
