An idea I'm leaning into in my head-canon/gaming Joe-verse is that the original CC established Cobra with the implicit blessing of the "Rogan" administration, who needed a high-profile foil to justify a major increase in military spending. But they didn't expect CC to so quickly establish a legitimately powerful global organization. Cobra's rapid rise and popularity should have been easy to predict, as a direct response to generations of colonialism and widespread western-backed exploitation across the global south. While violent and often chaotic, Cobra was founded on sound ideological principles that resonated far and wide, while the notion that they're hell-bent on world domination largely comes from US propaganda. Not an opinion really, but arguably controversial? I guess the opinion part is something like, "moral ambiguity and/or equally righteous positions pitted against one another makes G.I. Joe more compelling." Agree/Disagree? |

The 92-94 run is not as bad as people make it out to be. There are some duds for sure but the main battle corps line was solid. Alot of the neon and wacky colors come into play with the sub teams. Battle Force 2000 isn't that bad either! Last edited by HitandRun; 10-19-2020 at 10:46 PM.. |

The only thing cool about Cold Slither was watching the female Joes in disguise as an 11 or 12 yr old that was discovering girls. Otherwise, they sucked, so bad.
Shipwreck was an AWOL sailor in Sunbow. Grunt was never in Sunbow. Grand Slam had the highest ratio of comic panel time to be injured in the original ARAH Comic book run.

I thought it was primarily just switching out a letter for the sake of technically not making a claim about an actual historical figure’s moral character. So like Rogan’s conservative peers in that timeline might be Presidents Tramp, Bouche, Bouche Jr, Fard, Mixon, Eisenshower, etc, and of course any resemblance to any known, once-living historical figure is purely incidental.

Mine is not controversial but I like this topic. Ha. When I was a kid, I had a bunch of kitbashed figures that I assigned new names and I pretended they teleported from another star system to help GI JOE. I still have these figures and I painted them all about 13 years(?) ago. The four main guys of the team were Spice (has a Slice head), Marauder (Astro Viper head), Ram (Alley Viper head) and... Moon-Jumping John (Downtown head). Ha. Yeah, that last one is a great name. If I recall correctly, three out of the four figures have Muskrat v3 torsos.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/dwayn...b0ec6725e4ded0 Speaking of which, casting a big celebrity/persona like The Rock (or a pale substitute such as John Cena) hurts far more than helps the G.I. Joe film franchise, imo. Both by corrupting the character, and by totally eclipsing the rest of the team. And while I wish this wasn't a controversial opinion, there seems to be a huge groundswell of support for casting Cena as Duke. Now, I know that wasn't as exciting as my "reptilian Darklon" theory from a few pages ago, but it was the best I could do to stay on-topic.

In all seriousness, I loved this figure as a kid and he was frequently the main guy in whatever I was playing... but he was never Ross 'Muskrat' Williams from Thibodaux, LA. |

That makes much more sense, actually. I just had this weird visual in my head, imagining something similar to "The Rock Obama" morph:
