My comment has nothing to do with equal representation. If you go and toss a character into the story right now and have that character come out as gay, bi or whatever and it has nothing to do with the story you are PCing the story. If you see snake eyes running around killing red ninjas and he has to go after Satan and while he is at it he rescues a guy that falls for him and while snake eyes is trying to figure out a way to get into the headquarters the character says I love you Snake then that is PCing it. Maybe a rushed example but it fits. It's the same reason why a African American played Rip Cord. Sean Wayans was not a good representation of the Ripcord character they just black washed the character to make it more diverse or try too.
Now if you have a character in the story that is about to get deployed and it shows them kissing their partner bye and that is the end of it. That fits the story. As someone else mentioned Gi Joe has always been geared towards kids so it really has no place for it. It seems everywhere you go these days this stuff follows. Im not homophobic. I got to much in my life to worry about who someone else is boinking but sometimes its nice to just get away from reality and take a break. Taking a character that has been a certain way at the time it was created to now just seem like they are trying to satisfy something. Why don't they just create a new character that is a minority. Make them strong but don't over due it to the point that it is obvious that is what they are trying to do. They don't have to change another one just to fit the status quo. Quote:
I don’t see it as being ‘politically correct’ or everyone’s favorite bogeymen: “sjw”. I see it as: why shouldn’t there be equal representation for people who are gay? It doesn’t hurt anyone.
I look at Miles Morales and Into the Spiderverse. My best friend’s nephew is a spitting image of Miles from Into the Spiderverse (except he’s 10 instead of 15). I was with him when he saw that movie for the first time and I watched him light up to see himself on the full screen. He believed he could be Spider-Man. I thought that was awesome. As a straight white male, I am represented in 98% of media thats out there. I get that some can’t handle changes to characters they have known all their lives, but to me the same story for 40 years tends to go stale.

It was seven or eight years ago, but that tone, that voice, everything, that is burned into my mind and heart because I have never felt so floored, so hit by this argument before I heard that from her. Sure, the relationship ended up crashing and burning, but you know what, I appreciate I have this perspective, now. |

I could not care less about it. It’s my hobby, not my life.

This. One of the worst moments in my life, I was dating a girl from India and she was talking about how she loved Wonder Woman and Hermoine from Harry Potter and Black Widow, but she said, while we were walking through downtown, she hopped up on grass, walked along the concrete border, balancing, and she said in a dejected tone; 'but I can't be a hero, because I'm brown.'

As a kid I always enjoyed when a little romance was plugged into cartoons and comics that I liked. I don't think it's a bad thing to involve romance between ANY two characters, just as long as things are kept innocent enough.

Wait, so any character detail outside of the plot is “PCing?”. Does that include a character’s food preferences, music preferences... or does it only mean sexual preference? That would make for some pretty bland storytelling.

If the flavor of the week is ravioli with meat sauce and they put that in the story without any lead too whatsoever then yes.

I can accept that argument because it is logical. It isn't my preference, but it is consistent in its principle. Thank you.
