Laughing is good, and it’s healthy. But reading comprehension is useful as well.
After both of you go back and read what I wrote, you will observe that my answer to how Transgender people would be used on the G.I. Joe team would mirror the answer that the Department of Defense came to when they studied the same question for years. Even the Executive Order 10450 effective May 27, 1953 issued by President Dwight D. Eisenhower said the same thing. In other words, for over 67 years adults have been having a similar conversation to that of this HissTank forum thread. Sorry if the mere mention of a military regulation knocked you off your balance, but I’m not trying to apply regulations to Hasbro’s corporate marketing policy of toy brands targeted for children 4 and up. Instead I’m saying that for nearly 70 years there hasn’t been an easy answer to this question which still lingers even today. Relaxing hair and uniform regulations, and allowing women to serve in combat roles have all happened since ARAH was introduced in 1982. Those questions were easily answered, and implemented. The LGBT issue is another story. I didn’t mean to mock you in anyway, I just don’t agree that military reg should be used to determine if a sci fi based fictional military unit should have transgendered characters in it. Again, how is someone whose identity is based on a sex that person isn’t born with make them any less effective in combat? I don’t agree with that military reg and don’t agree with it in a fictional universe. My equilibrium is solid and it takes more than a quoted military regulation to spin me about or a allegation of not having comprehension upon reading a post. |

No, it’s still quite laughable to me. Just like landing a space shuttle on an aircraft carrier is laughable.

My equilibrium is solid and it takes more than a quoted military regulation to spin me about or a allegation of not having comprehension upon reading a post. A space shuttle on a carrier deck is… different to say the least. Probably inspired from when a C-130 was upon one experimentally. (Our military was prepared to land and take off from a soccer stadium in Iran with C-130s to rescue hostages once upon a time.) Thanks for clarifying. I did mistakenly think that you were mocking me. I have to be careful about how I say this, because I don’t want to get this thread locked… there are mental health concerns which the DoD has on this topic. They have to consider stress upon service members, PTSD and suicide issues, and other concerns when drafting these policies. I don’t make the policy, but I agree with it, because I don’t have a better solution which I can offer. These same concerns can be difficult to explain to children, so this can become a very difficult subject for any toy company to tie into a property involving a Sci-Fi based fictional military unit.

Hasbro marketing direction towards children is obviously a different approach as far as content appropriateness. The precedent for two different directions is not unheard of in media. Many a toy line has branched out to include content geared for older audiences and many a rated R movie has had a toyline aimed at kids. If Hasbro is allowing bishoujo statues to be licensed I can only assume sexuality isn't something they are overly concerned about in brand representation aimed towards mature audiences.

Why do we have too? We can have stories that don't have to be politically correct. I dont have a problem with it but only if the story needs it. Dont throw a gay character in the story just to have one or make scarlet bi after all this time. We dont have too polticize (that a word?) everything.

But it is already in the franchise and has been from the beginning. It just happened to fit into the social norm so it was never questioned. A girl can flirt with a boy in a cartoon and it is fine, but if a girl flirts with a girl, then somehow it is "sexuality". If people don't want their kids seeing flirting at all, then that is sound reasoning. If one is accepted over the other that is logically inconsistent within the arguments presented.
The ONLY reason I care is that faulty logic is maddening to me.

I look at Miles Morales and Into the Spiderverse. My best friend’s nephew is a spitting image of Miles from Into the Spiderverse (except he’s 10 instead of 15). I was with him when he saw that movie for the first time and I watched him light up to see himself on the full screen. He believed he could be Spider-Man. I thought that was awesome. As a straight white male, I am represented in 98% of media thats out there. I get that some can’t handle changes to characters they have known all their lives, but to me the same story for 40 years tends to go stale. |

Quite frankly, I don't care one way or the other, I was just making the logical case why it could be done. Personally I don't understand why LGBT is made into a political thing or their inclusion is considered being "politically correct". They are people like everyone else and if there are interesting stories to be told, then there are interesting stories to be told. It doesn't make me uncomfortable. I do imagine it would be frustrating to be a member of a minority group though and know I could only be included "when the story needs it".
