I am just glad that back In 1983 when I was playing with my Joes, doing all the battles, attacks and all the action I did not have to think about all of this. I was just happy playing with my toys. Because at the end of the day, they are just toys and real world social issues do not need to be part of that fantasy play world. That is my take, and no matter what I maintain that idea when I appreciate my toys. After all this hobby is about fantasy and imagining your own world. It does not have to be perfect, it just has to be yours. Last edited by Formulazl1; 10-10-2020 at 08:45 PM.. |

Meh, we subjected kids to far worse in the 80’s than showing same sex people in love.
Is same sex love worse than having 80’s cartoons and toy lines based on extremely violent movies (Robocop) or movies that dealt with the horrors, ptsd, and the politics of the Vietnam war (Rambo)? It’s not appropriate for kids to see same sex or opposite sex couples getting it on, but showing loving and caring relationships? Who cares? Last edited by PFC Hudson; 10-10-2020 at 08:57 PM.. |

I think of Gung Ho as a woman trapped in a men’s body. But it just so happens that inner woman is sexually attracted to other women.

I want more diversity in everything, but I am against changing what is established. If you want to add diverse legacy characters (Doc II, Dialtone II), or make new characters, completely, go for it. I will not see the new Snake-Eyes movie, or the new Resident Evil movie, because characters I grew up with are not the characters I knew and recall; I am not stating non-whites can't be heroes, I am stating these established characters are not X or Y, but are Z to me. Interpretations change, things change, but race, gender, sexuality are core parts of someone's foundation, and changing that changes the character. I would have just as much issue if they made Blade white, or John Stewart Latin.
But we live in a diverse world, and everyone deserves heroes. Make new characters, make new things, bring them out and put them with the rest of our heroes so everyone can feel the pride and engagement we have felt. MAKE THINGS. For instance, I made a figure of a friend's Joe OC, Boomer, who is trans for my Joe-verse and her figure is on my Joe shelf, as I type this. I would love if there were new, diverse characters added to the canon. |

In my view, changing a characters sexuality is not the same as race or gender swapping. One of my best friends was established as straight and has a son from his second marriage. At 37 he came out as gay.
That said, as far as parts aimed at children, obviously they don't need to be seeing sexual content, but I would not see any difference with two same sex characters relating the same way Flint and Lady Jaye did in the comic or Duke and Scarlett in the cartoon. With the comics being aimed more at adults, especially the Cobra series from some years back I would expect more leeway with more adult themes.

I swear I am not trying to stir up trouble or cause controversy, but am I the only one who assumed Duke and Roadblock were a couple in the comics? I kind of assumed that this was the case as a kid for some reason.
For the record, I never gave it much thought and was far more concerned with how Ripcord’s stupid obsession with Candy was going to screw up Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow’s revenge storyline. I have spoken out in the past about my dislike of Duke. I want it noted that it was because a certain media tried to use him to replace Hawk, who was a character I was far more invested in. I do agree that everyone deserves to see him or herself in the worlds that they love. That being said, I can also get behind what people have said about changing established characters. This property is so vast that there is always room for new characters. |

Carla taking the Doc name, after his death, and Dialtone's (neice? daughter?) stepping in after his retirement were fine and great. All in. Helix is one of my favorites, and I bought Shooter and Stilhetto, insta. Just give me more and give me new, just do not change what is there. My OCD brain cannot take it. |

There is ZERO place for LGBTQ characters in GiJoe or any other toylines that are intended or sold to children.
Because for them to exist, they would have to explicitly discuss or show their sexuality, which has no place in GiJoe. By the same point, there is ZERO place for straight sexuality in GiJoe. Kids dont care about sexuality and they dont need to exposed to it. By the time I became interested in girls, I no longer cared about GiJoe. That's the way its supposed to be |

Oh, do I miss the days when you could enjoy a brand and not have to weigh in on any social issues. When comic book companies cared about their readers and producing high quality products while building beloved mythos, not pandering to cancel culture degenerates on Twitter who have never and will never buy a comic book. Frankly at this point I really don’t care what they do to the Joe brand as so many fans have been told by people like Sitterson and woke Larry Hama that this brand is not for you anymore. Between all the terrible stories and art and the way they speak to fans, I fear they may be right.
