Sexuality has no place in a franchise geared at kids. Period.

lol I don't care what any of you say, I want more romance in GI Joe.
Destro and Baroness Snake Eyes and Scarlett Flint and Lady Jaye Mainframe and Zarana Shipwreck and Covergirl Leatherneck and Wetsuit... Lol I can see it now

Joking. At any rate, my first thought was to be careful about overtly sexualizing the brand (in any direction, actually). Plus that bigots buy action figures/see movies/watch tv, too. However, according to one study (although admittedly from GLAAD, so likely a little bit biased) ... Well there you go. I guess that settles that. BTW, when I first saw several of the Dreadnoks, I had no frame of reference or knowledge of G.I. Joe lore at the time. So before looking up the filecards/other media, I just kinda figured they were militant homosexuals. |

I’d forgotten that we’ve reached the 3 year anniversary of that failed social experiment for G.I. Joe.
Maybe Hasbro had some role in IDW’s decision to cancel Aubrey Sitterson’s spinoff title “Scarlett's Strike Force”.

Established as what? Most of these (one dimensional) characters barely receive any characterization at all. Emerging from the closet could actually help establish them with a unique identity of their own.
I agree gender/race swapping is entirely unnecessary. The so-called "minorities"* already on the team simply need to be focused on more heavily. * Who represent a vast majority of the country, actually. But there is no need to flip races between Ripcord and Stalker, gender between Duke and Scarlett, pacifist between Lifeline and Roadblock. You want to have a go at Skidmark, he’s all yours. ;)

You know, I'm all for inclusion and accurate representation of modern reality in pop cultural things (for example, I like how Disney is doing it: portraying women as real people and not just caricatures, same-sex couples dropping kids off at school, characters who are gay but that's not all they are, etc...), but I also feel like anything sexual or dealing with sexuality should be muted when it comes to stuff targeted at kids. We're making them grow-up too fast as it is. To me, GI Joe is kid's stuff, so I don't even think in terms of sexuality here. I don't give a shit whether Scarlett is dating Duke or Snake Eyes, or if Zarana is a lesbian/bi, or whatever. It just isn't applicable. Besides, sexuality is an ancillary trait and should never define a person.

I agree....but sadly companies like disney and viacom think that it has too and are constantly putting it childrens programming. I mean i get theres homosexual kids and all and people can live how they wish but regardless of that kids cartoons and shows should leave sexuality out of kids program so kids can just be kids and not have to grow up too soon.

I think we agree. Characters that do not have a history of being fleshed out are fine to “flesh out.”
