Since the '84 SS was the first ever SS I got, he will always be a Cobra to me.
Of course, I do like the ME DG W1 SS. He was needed to complete my ME Ninja Force collection:

Storm Shadow v.2 was the first version I ever got and so it has always been my favorite version. Tommy's story just plays best for me as someone who only associated with Cobra to find the truth of his uncle's death and avenge him. His redemption arc bringing him back to fight beside his "brother" Snake Eyes always meant a lot to me as I grew up with an estranged younger brother I wasn't able to spend time with, teach or protect as he grew.
Just my take on it though. |

1988 version is my favorite figure but I definitely think he works better as Cobra's answer to Snake Eyes. Having them both on the Joe team seems unbalanced. They should have launched Slice & Dice in 1988 and built them up a little more, to even things out.

I always had him as being the leader of the Arashikage that like other ninja clans work for the highest bidder whether it is cobra or gi joe. Storm Shadow was always my favorite and the one I had as a kid was the 88 version. I always held him higher than all my other figures so when I figured out cobra was a joke he was no longer a member.

I enjoy the evolution of Storm Shadow from Cobra to Joe, and wish a Joe cartoon or movie franchise would last long enough to show that more. |

Depends on how far Dr. Mindbender turns the knob on the Brainwave scanner.

Why not both? I like him switching sides, I think it gives him a lot more personality than other characters.

I prefer him as neither good nor bad, but serving his own purposes and aligning with whoever accordingly. I think his world view and philosophies transcend the idea of “taking sides”. The brainwashing shit I thought was dumb- he should be above brainwashing.
I think it reconciles just fine that in his quest for revenge against Zartan, he would align with Cobra and do some immoral things in the process. The Arashikage kill- splitting hairs on a righteous kill seems futile to them, I would think.

I like him as an idealistic noble demon, sort of like Baroness early on in the comics. It contrasts with my take on Snake Eyes, who also has a good heart and works for the "good" guys, but at the end of the day is the government's top assassin/killing machine. When something is really beyond the pale, they work together to stop it.
