Alright your married and trying to pay bills. How you still buy the ones you want without breaking the bank and getting your wife ticked off with you? I bought some today but felt guilty after (could be a problem). I did leave paris pursuit baroness at the store though but did grab flash, eel, crimson viper, and elite viper. How you guys do it? thanks.

I had collected toys for years. Not a ton. Enough Star Wars figs to fit into something the size of a clothes hamper, enough ECW toys to fit in 2 of them, and enough random stuff to fit a few large boxes. I had stopped. 100% cold.
GI Joe came out and we laughed about it at the store. I told her what I had as a kid and "if I still collected I'd be going nuts". Well come Christmas she bought me 1 blue troop and Beachhead. She told me I must keep my good guy vs. bad guy count even and I got to pick one new storage tub. Once it's full....I'm done. I pick ever ever careful what I want. Wait for the best prices. She's never complained. With what I have on card and loose I have about 50-55 figs. |

Well if you are trying to pay bills then you should not be doing it! These are just toys nothing else, useless toys as the value will never be more than what some other shulb is willing to pay for it.
If you feel guilty then you are doing something wrong. This should be a guilt free hobby......so.......return the figures and spend the money wisely. |

Find a balance between what you want and what you can afford.
If you have to make a choice about paying a bill or buying a toy, pay the bill. If you feel stress or regret after buying a toy, stop and think about the purchase before you buy it. From my own experience I have put myself on a budget. I do not spend more than 5% of my take home pay on toys. A budget is the best way to keep things manageable. A budget also keeps me from buying something on a whim.

I take out a set amount of cash each week. When I run out of money I am done for the week. If it's something big I save up.

One thing that makes me feel better when I'm wishing I had more toys is to think about all the ones I DO have. I try to picture in my mind the ones I have. I'm not saying its easy--but it does work when I make the effort.

You really have to focus when you're shopping.
I've gone out and spent before when it really wasn't in my best interests, and fully had 'buyers remorse'. The thing is, you need to avoid getting caught up in it at the store. Look over what's out there, and make a list of what you really 'need' (such a misnomer...but...) before going out. Don't get distracted by new sightings or full shelves. Keep to your list, and get only those (even if it means going home with nothing that day). You'll find yourself a lot less resentful of your spending if you keep your head on about it and try to avoid the 'rush'.
