All,
What would you call a GI Joe/ Star Wars mashup? GI Wars? Star Joes? Something else? I am leaning a certain way, but would like to hear thoughts before I move forward with something... |

Why sully GI JOE by attaching it to something as insipid and festering as Star Wars?

I didn't really cross them over, but Adventure People had a cool space shuttle that I used for Joes, before the days of Battle Force and the Defiant and Astro-Vipers and all that goodness.

no, No, NO!
As much as I hate Star Wars, I don’t ever want G.I. Joe to mash up with Star Wars.

Jinx,
I smell a story here. Inquiring mind wants to know. I'm getting a thinly veiled sense that; Star Wars no likey? |

Jinx you can't be an 80's kid? Star Wars was our religion in 1982.

Lol I used to be a fan but now it annoys the heck out of me, even before the Sequels. Now I do enjoy the Lucasfilm vs Fandom Menace battles though, I have to say, so I guess in a way Star Wars can still delight me!

Such a mashup would be so story specific that I think it'd just be named after that, like Star Wars/G.I. Joe: A Real American Rebellion or something along those lines.
The story pretty much writes itself, especially as a comic mini-series used to sell some crossover toys. Introducing Star Wars to Joe would be a lot more damaging to the continuity than the inverse, so G.I. Joe has to be introduced into the SW universe. The SW timeframe is between Revenge of The Sith and Star Wars, where we keep main characters to a minimum (that means no Luke, no Leia, no Obi-Wan). We see two simultaneous battles play out, alternating pages and panels: one between the new and struggling rebel forces and the still nascent Galactic Empire, and one between Joes and Cobra. Cobra and the Empire are both getting ready to activate some new device (a doomsday MacGuffin, who cares) while Joes and the Rebellion are struggling to stop them in their respective timeframes. The device is activated, and Joe/Cobra forces suddenly find themselves a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. The battle is broken up, and the story ends up following the two forces as they ally themselves with the two dominant forces. The Joes' weaponry may not stack up, but they're sharp, battle-hardened, and know how to fight. They help build up the rebellion, show them how to set up a command structure and effectively fight, while Cobra allies themselves with the Empire and shows them how to use terror to their advantage. I mean, just imagine Cobra Commander giving Tarkin advice... when they have to withdraw their forces to fortify a base they surmise the Rebels want to attack and Tarkin hesitates because it would leave the planet they're orbiting without an Imperial presense, CC tells him to leave just one Star Destroyer in orbit with cannons targeting the capital city. Tarkin insists it'd be useless, that they'd only be able to kill a few thousand before the planet would respond and destroy them, but CC simply tells him that they never would. They'd be terrified that they'd be one of the ones killed or that someone they love would be killed, that the fear would keep them in line, informing Tarkin's line in Star Wars about how the dissolution of the senate would be handled: "Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station." The series is resolved when it's discovered that a prototype of the device that caused the time/space shift exists on a small planet in Imperial space and the Joes/Rebels lead an assault to activate it and get everyone back home. There's some sci-fi technobabble about quantum tethers or something that ensure that everyone and everything sent back will go where it came from so when they win the day and activate the device everyone goes back. Cobra upgraded all their BATs with Imperial tech so they're totally non-functional upon their return and the Joes easily win (and destroy the MacGuffin so it'll never happen again) while the Rebels have learned a whole bunch of lessons about fighting and leadership and can move forward with a newfound efficiency and confidence. We'd get cool stuff, like CC wanting to stay and swearing his allegiance to the Emperor over hologram, or Jaye teaching Mon Mothma how to defend herself if her ship gets boarded, the ninjas getting to use lightsabers (Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow battling with lightsaber tonfas? yes, please!), or Ace getting to fly an X-Wing... lots of fun moments to play around with. So... Star Wars/G.I. Joe: A Real American Rebellion? G.I. Joe/Star Wars: Cobra Strikes Back? |
