This is gonna sound weird.
But as a kid I really didn't dig a number of the 84 and 85 characters... Duke (v1) Roadblock (v1) Deep Six (v1) Thunder (v1) Bazooka (v1) Flint (v1) Footloose (v1) Lady Jaye (v1) Quick Kick (v1) Crankcase (v1) Frostbite (v1) Heavy Metal (v1) Odd are I wasn't really on board with these characters because there were already similar characters in the line already. Duke and Flint just felt like another version of Hawk. Footloose - Grunt Crankcase - Clutch Forstbite - Snowjob Heavy Metal and Thunder - Steeler Quick Kick - SE Roadblock - RnR Bazooka - Zap Lady Jaye - Scarlett Eventually I warmed up to all of them...but at first my thoughts were, ehh do we need two characters that do the exact same thing? |

I didn't like the fact that the Scarlett, Covergirl, Lady Jaye, Baroness, and Zarana figures didn't have the beautiful faces like in the card art.

I got my first GI Joe toys in 1989. And I hated that I was never able to acquire a Cobra Commander with a face plate, rather than a hood.

the HISS? Whaaaaa how dare you.
Joking, that was my only Cobra vehicle ever besides the FANG and I loved it. I got in on the tail end of straight arms so that original stuff was my bag baby. Loved it all til 87 though. 87 I was more into the ladies than Joes. Unfortunately. |

Not living up to the card art hurt the guys though too. Leatherneck looked more like a janitor from Chicago and Beachhead looked like a kid in a Halloween costume.

Spearhead a was a big offender. Intense dude on card art. Figure is a some milktoast with a thick helmet.

Variety and differences in likes is what makes the world go round. Oddly, I got the HISS with Flag Points and didn’t get the driver until about two years ago.
