It was popular enough to make a whole episode around it on "The Community."

I'll add that Voltron references are something I've never heard in real life. The most influential facet of Joe to most GIJoe fans is Hama's run- which doesn't apply to me, actually (insert "not a real Joe fan" insult here). I think someone's bubble shifting. |

You're confusing popularity with being well known.

No, it's not. Shit that has cultural relevance from the 80's is "Form Blazing Sword," "By the Power Of Grayskull," "Thunder. thunder, thunder, Thundercats! Hooo!" Very few people outside of the JOE fandom can tell you "And now you know. And knowing is half the battle," is from the end of the G. I. JOE p.s.a. We live in a bubble and tend to think that G.I. JOE is greater than what it is to the outside world. The most popular form of G. I. JOE Hama's 155 issues of the Marvel run while the most well-known version of it is the cartoon even then that's only to a certain segment of the population.
No, people know what 'and knowing is half the battle!' is. I'm more confused by you thinking anyone knows or cares about Voltron or Thundercats outside of 80s intros compilations and Thundercats Roar being garbage. That's not even the part of He-Man that's memorable, it's 'I HAVE THE POWER!', Skeletor and the What's Going On song meme. If I were to argue the cultural relevancy of the 80s properties, I'd say: Transformers and TMNT take the top spot by a very, very wide margin. GI Joe and He-Man take second fiddle. Then everything after that, probably influenced by region of the world you live in. :/ You're out of touch, old man. |

What does Thundercats Roar and Thundercats Roar being garbage have to do with this conversation? Quote:

You're just delusional about how popular G. I. JOE is in 2020 and how memorable it is with the general public.
