I am a big fan of the Red Shadows, but feel they need some new recruits to bolster their ranks. Whilst I enjoy coming up with new characters I am thinking of throwing this open to everyone as bit of fun. I want the naming convention to follow the format of "Red something" but ideally forming some well known term or phrase.

Below are some names I have already brainstormed (can you brainstorm by yourself?), but would like to hear other people's suggestions for more names, or a bio for the character behind one of the names. They can be individual characters or army builders.

To get it started (although I am not expecting full bios or customs from everyone), I liked the red "Alley Fighter" character that Marauder recently made available but felt he needed to join the Red Shadows. Looking at the head I was initially going to go with some type of shock trooper, but decided in the end to make him a paratrooper.

Red Devil's military accomplishments brought him to the attention of Action Force when they were first being created, but he failed the selection process on psychiatric grounds. After a dishonourable discharge from the German Army he sought out the Black Major and joined the Red Shadows. One of the few recruits who did not require brainwashing. Often used in surprise attacks to seize strategic objectives and hold until relieved by ground forces, trained to fight against superior numbers.

Real Name: Unknown
Birthplace: Unknown

Believed to be Japanese or of Japanese descent, Red Dingo’s background is not entirely clear. Concrete facts are that he is a wanted man in both Japan and the United States; he has a lengthy number of aliases, with outstanding arrest warrants for various vehicle related crimes. He is an expert mechanic and an accomplished street-racer. He was recruited into the Red Shadows organisation by Red Vulture whilst on the run in Europe. Red Dingo specialises in driving vehicles, particularly anything fast, for the Shadows. He’s not above using captured Action Force or GI Joe equipment once suitably modified – starting with a coat of red paint. Known to have used an SAS Force Panther, Z Force jeep, GI Joe VAMP MK II, AWE Striker, Hammer and a Cobra STUN.

Red Steel
Real Name: Unknown
Birthplace: Believed to be Kobe, Japan
PMS: Assassin
SMS: Enforcer

Red Steel is a former member of the Japanese organised crime gangs commonly known as the Yakuza. Little of her personal history is known for sure, but it’s believed she started out as a prostitute in the Yakuza’s employ before becoming a gang ‘warrior’ after avenging the death of her pimp during a turf fight. Red Steel subsequently fought her way up through the Yakuza’s ranks becoming a key enforcer for her boss. She was often sent overseas to keep an eye on operations and to enforce the boss’ will if necessary. During one such trip to Europe, she had a run in with Interpol agents and was rescued by a Red Shadow cell. Cut off from her Japanese ‘family’, she joined the Red Shadows and became one of a group of three female assassins, along with Red Scorpion and Red Hammer. She is a highly skilled knife-fighter and not a woman to be crossed.

Red Cross

Red Cross was one of those children who liked shining a magnifying glass on ants and pulling wings off flies. He enjoyed dissecting frogs in biology class and even vivisected small rodents from the garden. After gaining his medical degree, he joined a medical research company before being struck off for unethical medical practices. Red Cross was one of the Baron’s key assistants during the development of the Kraken, where he used several patients in torturous procedures and subjected others to genetic manipulations which resulted in agonising deaths for the lucky ones and irreversible abnormalities in the others. Captured during an operation by Action Force, he was sent to prison but was later rescued by the Baron. Red Cross remains high on Interpol’s Most Wanted list and is a High-Priority Target for Action Force. Since the Baron’s departure from the Red Shadows, his primary role is in maintaining, rebuilding and developing the Kraken population.

Red Talon

The Red Talons are an elite branch of the Red Shadows, equipped with a sophisticated one-man aerial propulsion unit, commonly called a ‘jet pack’. The Red Talons’ jet-pack is capable of speeds of up to 250mph in level flight at sea level and is fitted with an air-cooled jet engine and carbon-fibre wings. The Red Talon flight suit includes palm-mounted steering controls and a holographic heads-up display in the helmet’s visor. The Red Talons can only carry a minimal amount of weapons and ammo and thus rely on surprise and speed to carry the day in any attack. It is understood that Red Shadow scientists extensively studied the GI Joe JUMP pack and the MARS rocket-pack used by the TARGAT arm of the Iron Grenadiers before creating the Talons’ pack. Red Talon troops are qualified in the use of most NATO, Warsaw Pact and third party small arms, but are forced to rely on sub-machine guns and automatic pistols for their armament. They do, however, remain a credible threat.

Red Hammer
Real Name: Orna Zuckerman
Birthplace: Tel Aviv, Israel
PMS: Sniper

Orna Zuckerman was an Israeli Army soldier serving in the Israeli-occupied ‘security zone’ in Lebanon when her unit came under attack from what they believed were Palestinian militants at first. Most of the unit was wiped out and the few survivors soon found they’d been captured by Red Shadows. Orna, along with three other survivors, was brainwashed by agents of Baron Ironblood. Already an expert sniper and marksman, she is now one third of an all-female assassination squad in the Red Shadows, along with Red Steel and Red Scorpion. Prior to her capture, she was a crack shot with the IMI Galil assault rifle and M4 and M16 assault rifles. She is rated expert with the Galatz version of the Galil and the M89SR. Since her capture she has trained to expert level with many sniper rifles and assault rifles from across the world, including the SVD Dragunov, Barrett M82, M14, M24, M40, Valmet Tkiv 85, Accuracy International Arctic Warfare, FR F2, PSG-1 and the FN FAL. Wanted by the Israeli authorities for desertion and by the Lebanese authorities for murder.

feel free to use any of them, I don't give monkey's whether they were used, tbh, they guy gave me names for most of them and a brief description and I had to flesh it out for the profiles. Red Cross was one that I fleshed out from a skimpy profile of another guy.

Red Tiger - An infantry officer I created who basically looked like a Crimson Viper but with black tiger-stripes on his suit.

Red Fists - martial arts specialists who wear blood-red martial arts robes, red gloves and black boots and a bandito style mask over their mouth and nose.

Red Fox - female intelligence agent.

Red Condor - Roboskull pilot

I got a bunch of others, but they don't stick to the Red Blank naming scheme.

In my Joeverse, the Red Shadows have been around since before WWI as a secret syndicate and in the 70's they were led by this guy:

Wilder Vaughn was an MI5 agent who became leader of the Red Shadows in 1970. By 1976, the Red Shadows were nearing the completion of a "death ray" more powerful than the nuclear bomb. In response to this, the United States and Great Britain combined forces to stop them. The Shadows were defeated by a coalition of G.I. Joe Adventure Team and Action Force members led by Col. Joseph Colton and British Royal Marine Commando Col. Rupert Pallet.

Vaughn had an extreme interest in military history and the occult and spent many of the Red Shadows resources trying to collect famous weapons and artifacts from throughout history, including King Arthur's sword Excalibur.


In modern times the Red Shadows are led by Red Serpent whose background I am still working on. I'm thinking he is a US Senator and son of Fred Wallace (who is the younger brother of Robert "Rusty" Wallace from the TV show Tour of Duty. My Joeverse incorporates movies and TV shows I grew up with).
