Have either Storm Shadow kill him or one of the commander’s prototype experience finish him off while Stormie watches.

I know and I hated those things. They seemed so rushed in the comic and felt like wannabe night creepers.

I always liked Sunbow's Spirit vs Storm Shadow. I think it's a whole lot more unique than Ninja vs Ninja Action. I mean, if we must keep SS a villain.
But I personally use him as a Joe. I also use SE as a Commando with the V1 head rather than the Ninja V2 head. It helps me still appreciate the characters after being completely over the Arashikage Tumor that is the SE v SS story in every Joe after Dic. I don't mind it being a subplot, but the focus and continuous retread is so boring. Joe is an ensemble cast, where many characters are interwoven into other's stories, but it feels like only the Arashikage and Scarlett matter. They don't even use Stalker and he's a major player in SE's story. |

I’m actually shocked at some of these comments.
It’s almost like the “Duke hate” shifted to Snake Eyes. I think he’s one of the coolest, most iconic characters ever. I’m definitely not sick of him. Fresh ideas are great and of course the same storylines can grow old but no way I’d want to permanently get rid of him.

Larry's having such a hard time coming up with new ideas that he killed SE just to end up with two more. "Creating" Throwdown as a character with the same training as SE, only to give him the same injuries as SE (in the very issue he killed off SE), was weak. The whole can't let Cobra know SE is dead or they'll try to take over the world rationalization was silly. If Throwdown didn't get injured, would he have to wear a mask anyway and pretend he couldn't speak for the rest of his career? After almost 40 years of ARAH, SE is basically the only Joe with a fleshed out backstory. Every other backstory is mainly how that character met SE. G.I. Joe has basically been six degrees of Snake Eyes, since issue #26 of the Marvel run.

At this point Snake-Eyes is G.I.Joe; he's the only one in recent memory to have a ongoing comic, an upcoming mini-series, and solo movie that could become a trilogy.
He's the Wolverine of the X-Men and it's only a matter of time before the next cartoon is G.I.Joe: Ninja Force with Scarlett possibly being the only real Joe on the team and SE love-interest, so get use to him being the face of the franchise! |

If it gave us 6 inch versions of both waves of Ninja Force and Shadow Ninjas, I'd be ok with this.

Snake Eyes is currently dead, but his memories do live on — literally, thanks to the brain wave scanner.
My personal guess is that Throwdown will ultimately sacrifice his life and that Snake Eyes (the original) will get transferred as some kind of revitalizing force and then have a new life in a formerly dead body, and so be resurrected like Storm Shadow was. With the theme of people saving each other — Stalker saving Snake Eyes in Southeast Asia, Storm Shadow saving Snake Eyes after the war by offering him purpose and a way to grow, then Snake Eyes turning around a pulling Storm Shadow out of his revenge-corrupted mindset in the early 80s, then Snake Eyes and Stalker helping the Collins family through bad times, I’m guessing Sean (I think that’s his name) Collins will end up repaying SE and the Joes as a kind of last wish — like, he’ll see a situation kind of like Sneak Peek in Trucial Abysmia, save someone knowing it may cost him his life, and then as a final wish ask that SE come back to life. I don’t think Hama is anywhere near done with him, and for Larry’s comic I think that’s appropriate. I also think the rest of the property, new toys, other comic lines, hopefully a toon, plus the movie and any follow-ons, can and should continue to use Joe’s most marketable and popular character. Would be bad for the brand overall to not do that, as much as it might frustrate some long-time fans who are tired of it...and ultimately, I’m guessing that even they will be better off because of it, since a popular and successful brand would also be more likely to do other stuff, at least some of which they would probably like. I do agree that there should be place in Joe that is more real world military though, and that mainly focuses on characters we know less about. Duke, Shipwreck, Major Bludd, the Twins are great examples from Sunbow of what can be done outside the comic to cover territory that Larry isn’t as into. I suppose Slaughter is too. From Dic....ummmm....Captain Grid-Iron and Metal Head? (BAnG! BaNG!) A bunch of other comics and shows deserve credit along these lines too, as well as for new characters which are also needed. Should be a handful of those a year, IMO. Maybe a good way to do it would be branch off a separate (or half-separate) Snake Eyes and ninja thing from the main Joes, but do a crossover thing once a year or so? The Wolverine comparison seems perfect — give Wolvie (SE) fans their own thing as the entree, while also having him come and go in the main story as a way to satisfy those who prefer smaller doses or who are new, while keeping it from getting overwhelming for those long time readers/viewers who are less into it. |
