Another Joe forum I used to be on was talking about having a create-your-own sub-team contest. It never came to pass before I left, but I created a Marine Raiders team that I'd love to see done for real:
Raider Leader Codename: Devil Dog File Name: Charles Ripley Birthplace: Bowers, Delaware Rank: Master Gunnery Sergeant PMS: Grenadier SMS: Drill instructor Devil Dog is your quintessential US Marine. He’s served across the world with the Corps, deploying to Camp Butler in Japan and Camp Mujuk in South Korea for extended tours. After five years as a drill instructor at Parris Island, Devil Dog was approached to lead the new GI Joe Marine Raiders. Devil Dog is qualified with all USMC personal weapons and typically carries the M16/M203 combo. Black hair. White. Raider Gunner Codename: Buccaneer File Name: John Cooper Birthplace: Shreveport, Louisiana Rank: Gunnery Sergeant PMS: Machine gunner SMS: Small-arms repairman Buccaneer is a hard-charging Marine, promoted below the zone three times to reach Gunnery Sergeant younger than anyone else. He specialises in support fire. He can hit targets with a light machine-gun that most other Marines need a scope to spot. Buccaneer is particularly known for his marksmanship whilst firing from the hip and even on the move. He can field strip and repair any Marine personal weapon and can reassemble even the most complex weapons easily. Carries a Light Machine Gun. White, brown hair. Raider Marksman Codename: Bullseye File Name: Alfred Branch Birthplace: Birmingham, Alabama Rank: Gunnery Sergeant PMS: Designated Marksman SMS: Infantry If Buccaneer is the run and gun type, then Bullseye is the guy you’ll barely see moving. Bullseye is fully prepared to sit for days and wait for a target to arrive before putting a single round into the target for the perfect take down. Bullseye has set several records in the USMC for distant target hits and is notorious for never needing more than one shot for a kill. Bullseye served in Grenada and Panama before his selection to the Joe Marine Raider team. Black. Carries a sniper rifle. Raider Signaller Codename: Long Wave File Name: John Silva Birthplace: Rio Rancho, New Mexico Rank: Lance Corporal PMS: Radio Recon SMS: Infantry A specialist in radio reconnaissance, Long Wave was a member of the USMC Radio Recon Platoons, specialising in tactical signals intelligence and electronic warfare. As a member of the RRPs, Long Wave is a graduate of US Army Airborne School, as well as the Marines’ Radio Recon Instruction Programme. He also graduated US Army Ranger School, US Army Military Freefall School and US Army Pathfinder School. He’s HALO and HAHO qualified as well as trained in rappelling and fast-roping. Already fluent in Spanish and English, he’s also learned Russian and Arabic with the Corps. Make no mistake, there’s more to this Marine than taking calls for the squad leader. Hispanic, black hair. Has a backpack radio and carries an M16. Raider Medic Codename: First Aid Filename: Fred Willis Birthplace: Columbia Tennessee Rank: Petty Officer 1st class (equivalent) PMS: Hospital Corpsman SMS: Dental Technician First Aid is a USN Hospital Corpsman who serves alongside the Raiders to provide medical aid. Although not a Marine, First Aid has nevertheless got the respect of his Raider team-mates for providing them with medical support whilst only carrying a sidearm for personal defence. First Aid manages to keep up with the Marines thanks to having served with USMC units in Panama and Lebanon. White, blonde hair. Rescue gear box, sidearm pistol, backpack. Raider EOD/Demolitions Codename: Landmine File name: John Williams Birthplace: New York city Rank: Lance Corporal PMS: Explosive Ordnance Disposal SMS: Demolitions Landmine is a specialist explosive ordnance disposal Marine, trained to disarm and defuse bombs, shells, missiles and improvised devices. All of that, however, means he can wire together an explosive device from the right ingredients to destroy a building, a tank or even sink a ship. He’s also a very cynical guy who believes the worst will happen more often than not. Usually because it does. White, brown hair. Carries a backpack for his kit, M16 and wears a helmet with a face shield on. The bios were meant for 1908s era GI Joe and my intent was that they could be created as LBC customs mostly using Leatherneck for parts, but First Aid was supposed to be done with a combo of Doc and Tan Grunt parts and a Hawk v1 head. I don't remember the recipe I had for Bullseye... |

Here is one I made up a few years ago over on the easy Kitbashes thread:
Here's a new Nok. I'll call him Outbreak. He's an infectious disease expert that went wrong by admiring the power of lethal microbial strains more than humanity. He is now the Nok biological weapons specialist that causes havoc wherever he goes. He keeps the CDC busy for sure.

I would like to see the original early characters done in the quality of the Joy Toy figures I’ve recently bought. They’re a little expensive, probably because of the nice packaging, but that could be changed to some cheaper packaging like the DG Joes were in.

Fighter pilots that don't look like astronauts. Something like this. Maybe put some AFSOC members on the team. Quote:

Here's another Nok from 2015.
Code Name: Eschar Bio: Eschar was a history professor that suffered 3rd degree burns to his face when Blowtorch missed his target during a skirmish with Cobra. After his recovery, he vowed revenge against Blowtorch and GI Joe by joining the Dreadnoks. Eschar has taken inspiration from his favorite figure in history, Teddy Roosevelt. He "speaks softly, and carries a big stick;" and he ain't doing much speaking.

Vipers of all sorts that have camo patterns that match the terrain they are fighting in. It always bugged me that a purple/blue Tele-Viper was fine and dandy in a desert environment as an example. Even the Cobra hierarchy with thier trademark uniforms in various environments bugged me. Alley Vipers in friggan bright orange, blue fighting in a urban environment. What.The.Hell.
When they introduced Alley-Vipers, I would have won a gold medal if face palming was an Olympic event. |
