*SHUDDER*
I want someone to really explain to me WHO it is that blatantly refuses to listen to the voice of reason with certain things........... This movie could hold sooooo much potential, and yet.........*shakes head* I just don't know..........

I just finished reading part 2 of the script. It seems weird that Destro and the Baroness are "creating" Cobra Commander. Almost like a dio I read where Dr. Mindbender brings Serpentor back to life with green blood.
After seeing Grindhouse, I think they should try to cast Bruce Willis as Flint. It was the black beret that did it. |

G.I.*JOE needs a new image on the industry. The joes need to be taken seriuosly from the media industry. We don't want a happy go lucky dumb movie. We need something with a serious aspect to all the characters, story, and environments the joes are know for. I am sick and tired of the really bad cartoon treatments and stupid buddy film ideas for the joes. Its gotta be about the character development and how they all tie together in the story and do not forget the cool tech as well. We all love the joe and cobra equipemnt. With all the real tragedies happening now we as a whole (meaning whole world) need something to uplift us from this quagmire. We need hope and faith in this brave new world. We need joe ...G.I.*JOE - A REAL INTERNATIONAL HERO.

The problem with this movie is that there is waaay too much already established for GI Joe - and then established with the Marvel comics, DD comics and cartoon series (even then broken up into Sunbow vs. DIC parties), that whatever happens with the movie, fans will feel letdown. Their favorite character won't be in it, or they won't like the way something was changed in the backstory, or whatever. The best we can hope for is that this movie is dealt with the way that the X-Men movies were, or Trandsformers. There'll be pissing and moaning about this as long as people care enough about this product to complain about it. Nobody will ever be happy with what we finally end up with, even if their overall view of the film is positive.
The problem us adult fans face is that Hasbro will still feel the need to make the movie accessible to younger fans as well. Anyone old enough can remember the poor sales of the original Alien movie figure put into stores, or the flack Matchbox got over their Freddy Kreuger dolls (because he had been a pedophile), and parents clamoured for them to be removed from the shelves. Now those go for a pretty penny. And unlike Ghostbusters, for example, where the movie came out, and then a cartoon, which led to toys being made, this is going in the other direction, where it's attempting to take a comic book/cartoon series and adapt it to a live action film. Of course, all of the original fans are older now, but it's still a toy, and no doubt Hasbro will try to keep it accessible to both the young and old. I really have no idea what, if any, input Hasbro has into the movie, and I really don't pay much attention to any news on it. I do know Larry Hama is a consultant, but otherwise, I don't want to know. I'll go see it, and form my opinion afterwards. I, personally, would like to see real-life combat and the usage of real and future military tech in the film. But the current wars going on that America's involved in are touchy subjects, and unless the movie is attempting to say something specific about the wars against terrorism, then I think most will stay away from it. As sad as it may sound, most people don't want to have to think. Movies are a form of entertainment meant to distract them from terrorism, war, scandal, economic woes, etc. The original GI Joe fealt a backlash from the war in Vietnam, and went from being a soldier to a Man Of Action and Adventure. When things become real, it's not fun anymore for most people. If you've lived your life through something like that, or have spent time in military, then that may not be the case. I spent 8 years in the Army, and I loved it. I loved the chaos and danger and uncertainty. But most people want to be safe in their homes and not be affected by what happens in the rest of the world. As far as a new image, I think something that includes other elite soldiers from around the world would be nice to have. But I mostly enjoy the reminiscing of what I had growing up. Maybe if they added some of the Joes from Britiain and South America to the standard line, made everything all one. I'd be up for that. |

I, for one, will be greatly disappointed if the movie doesn't feature the greatest story of all: Cobra Commander kidnapping a scientist (NO WAY!! ) to create a mind control device...
...for dinosaurs. And then the dinosaurs knock stuff over and break through walls and all the setpieces vanish and cobra troopers are running around with invisible legs. That was definitely the best episode of the cartoon by far.
