As a young little Joe collector in the early 80's, one of my most favorite things to do was to grab the newest GI Joe ad and daydream about the great battles I could have with all of the new stuff. Whether it was the pictures on the back of the figures or the catalogs that came in the vehicles, I loved them all.
So, fast forward to now and as I am getting my 25th collection squared away, I decide it is time to go browse through all of my old joes that I have stuffed away. This is a chore as this collection is stored in 7 of those great rubbermaid storage bins, wrapped in protective wraps and each figure individually bagged. Then I noticed the catalog from 1985..quite possibly the best year for Joes in the 80's (imho). So after the great memories I thought that maybe somebody else out there had the same childhood pasttime of staring at these catalogs, without further ado, here it is. Hopefully you all enjoy this as much as I did! |

I always collected my catalogs, too! I looked forward to seeing all of the new figures and vehicles together in one place. I hate to admit this, but the only thing I ever actually shoplifted in my entire life was the 1987 Joe catalog (I opened up a vehicle at a Target and swiped up the catalog). Anyways, I think my favorite catalog was always the 1984 one with Duke and Zartan on the cover! Close 2nd is the one you found, the 1985 catalog with the Joes in front of the giant stone logo. I also remember my catalog from the MOBAT (think it was the '83 catalog, the one with the Joe HQ on the front) was so torn up from always opening it up and looking at it.

I have a few catalogs myself. sometimes I wish I was still a kid.. just so I can live the glory years of GIjoe. I remember when they had a whole aisle dedicated to Gijoe at Toysrus back in the day.

I enjoyed the catalogs as much, if not more, than the toys they came with.

Dang it I had a lot of that stuff. I shed tears trying to remember where it all is.

85's catalog was my fav. What I never noticed before was how each playset or vehicle had there own category.
I remember staring at that thing for hours and plan what I wanted for my birthday or xmas. Thanks for the memories! |

It'd be really cool if Hasbro did some of the Battlefield Stations and Battlefield Accessories for the 25th Anniversary line.

I remember buying my last ever vehicle just for the Catalogue. It was the Devilfish. I sold my entire collection at a garrage sale a couple of months later so I could buy a walkman, a cassette walkman... I think Pyromania was the album I bought with it.
I also remember that endcap at TRU stocked fat, top to bottom with nothing but Joe figures. I don't remember stores ever having an issue keeping things in stock back then. |
