Is it too late to try to get in and talk about the different lines ?
I really liked the late 90's and early 2000's o-ring reissues. Those two packs were some of my favorite versions of those figures. The Firefly and Undertow set is one of my favorites, that camo on Firefly is very well done and suited him well. The sonic fighters Major Bludd repaint was perfect in my eyes. They took a figure I never really liked and a simple repaint in classic colors really changed my opinion of it. The Rock-Viper that came with him, didn't care for it's update. Another that I really liked was Ambush, or well Sidetrack as they renamed him. Great camouflage uniform on that one. The Duke they packed with him was pretty good too, had the wrong hair color but still a great looking figure. And I have to give a mention of the Fast Blast Viper and Laser Viper. Simple repaints and a new head and a head swap turned out a couple of Vipers that still felt like they had always been there. I could go on and on, there were so many of those 2000, 2001 and 2002 ARAH style two packs and vehicles that I thought were perfect updates of the old molds. Still wish we had gotten that Raid on Cobra Island three pack. Some of the six pack sets were really good too. The Cobra urban strike team, Desert Patrol Squad and of course the best Troop builder set Hasbro has ever made...The Cobra Infantry Forces, "blue shirts", six pack. I bought so many of those. Talk about a childhood dream come true. I'm sure many of us remember trying to explain to our parents why we needed more than one Cobra Trooper or Viper or a Star Wars Stormtrooper. But that six pack of blue shirts was perfection. Finally got to have the old school Cobra army I had dreamed of since 1983. As for modern figures, I don't know that Hasbro will ever be able to top the PoC/30th/Renegades era. Hands down some of the best work Hasbro has ever done in 3.75" was during that time. Low-Light, Techno-Viper, and the amazing Cobra Shock Trooper. Shadow Tracker, Lifeline and Airtight, Stalker and Snake Eyes (the one with the extra classic head and ton of equipment and cloth belts on the webgear). They gave us a great mix of updated classic ARAH figures and brand new figures and characters. It was like a second golden age of GIJoe. |

I'm 100% with you on that choice, in fact hit the new sculpt option by "mobile mistake" I never was able to convince my folks of the merits of army building, by the way, so all of my troops had much more defined personalities in my verse. |

I picked 30th Renegade POC, but a tough choice. I didn't really start collected again until 2012, so I missed most of the good stuff off the shelf. I also had bought some GI Joes for my daughter around 2006 or so. Basically, to me, every line of joes got better and better. I like new sculpt, until I saw 25th, which I loved until the newer ME came out.
I still really like the concepts and re-imagining of many joes from the new sculpt era. Yes, the execution isn't as good as ME, but you see the evolution, with articulated wrists and removable body armor on some of the new sculpt. I think Rise of Cobra was the worst of the ME. Some were really good-Desert Ambush Duke, but the millions of neo viper or whatever they were called kind of ruined the line. i really like 50th too, but in large part because I got cheap access to POC figures I missed. |
