I never received a play set for Christmas. Let me live vicariously through your stories about the big 3!

1986. One of my all time favorites. Woke up to find a huge box with a terrordrome in it. Played with it all day using the tree as alpine made his way down to infiltrate. Sadly i was young and dumb enough to trade it to a friend a year later for a hampster in a cracked fish tank.
The hampster died 2 weeks later. Smh |

Those were all a little before my time. Probably the biggest thing I ever got scale-wise was an Armor-Bot. I was thrilled! I loved that thing.

The one and only vintage playset distributed in Italy was the TBP. I received the Christmas of 1988 (the Gi Joe came out in Italy only in 1987) along with a dozen figures, cobra rattler, dragonfly, cobra ferret. This was the most beautiful Christmas of my childhood for sure.

I didn't have any G.I. Joe "playsets" so to speak, but one Christmas I received the Killer WHALE, Dragonfly, and Water Mocassin. Then my uncle took me out shopping the day after Christmas and I found the Rattler on sale. This was probably Christmas of 1984.

Christmas 84 was a fine haul for me, no complaints. As we were cleaning up the wreck of paper we had made, my folks pull out this huge box I was not previously been aware of. I seemed to have lost my mind when I then opened it to find the Joe HQ. Great times!

We begged for the Sears exclusive Cobra Missile Command Headquarters, but that was never happening, because it was made of cardboard. Our parents said that if it were plastic, they would have bought it, but their rule was no cardboard toys (because they claimed that was a rip off). But the big three G.I. Joe playsets were 1985, 1986, and 1987… which is too bad, because our last G.I. Joe Christmas was 1984, and then in 1985 we were aging out of G.I. Joes, and asking for other stuff. It’s not G.I. Joe, I understand, but the largest Christmas playset I unwrapped during my childhood was in the mid 1970’s. It was the Marx Toys Navarone giant playset. I wish I still owned it today… so many happy memories playing with that.

I would consider the WHALE a sort of playset. It's the only one I ever received for Christmas anyways. It was one of the best presents ever although my step-dad hated it and told my mom I was too old for toys now. I was 12 at the time.
The rest of the story I've told often enough, but suffice to say I also got a brand new 10-speed and proceeded to race the thing right into a brick wall. I was banged up pretty badly and when I woke up the next morning at the hospital, I found my step-dad had brought in my Killer WHALE filled with figures and left them at the foot of my bed.
