I personally love the updated looks, as looking back a lot of the characters had unrealistic outfits. I think a then and now pack would be uber cool.

Just because we're outspoken, doesn't mean we're the majority. And RoC is meant to get new Joe fans, create a new generation of Joe fan. To the kids out there today, they have no clue that Law existing in a red/blue version or even a gray/white version. They'll just know the desert camo RoC version. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I think this thread is going way off topic with this one. I'm sorry if anyone is offended by my opinion that I want classically designed figures to display with my other classically designed figures. I was just trying to answer Troynos' question. The Roc figs are great updates. No one is disputing that or saying it's wrong. The 2 pack Idea with past and present figs would be very awesome. All I'm saying is I would love to have an ARAH version of Law and Order to pose next to my Tunnel Rat and Falcon.

First off, most RAH figures didn't have multiple uniforms/versions. It was a fairly rare occurrence, actually.
Secondly, I'm fine with redesigns now and again - if they're good. Remember the JvsC/Spytroops/DTC designs? Only a few of them were any good, so I don't really trust Hasbro's design team to create good looks for characters. Of course, this is all just my opinion, but there isn't much of a fan following for those years so I take it I'm not alone in this matter... I think it's fair to assume the success of the 25th Anniversary line is based on one overriding factor - better detailed/articulated CLASSIC designs. I certainly don't mind redesigned stuff as well - i.e. RoC, Resolute - but not at the complete expense of the 25th Anniversary concept.

I certainly don't mind redesigned stuff as well - i.e. RoC, Resolute - but not at the complete expense of the 25th Anniversary concept. Hasbro isn't going to run two separate lines because the retailers don't want two separate lines. They didn't even want the last three waves of Resolute/Modern Era single-cards. (How do I know this? Simple: Because if the retailers want a product that Hasbro has already tooled up, Hasbro will sell it to them). Likewise, Hasbro is not going to start advertising a return to "classic" product this early in RoC's lifespan, even if it very well may be what they have planned. Think about it...they have the biggest "push" of G.I. Joe branded product that they've had in the last 15 years, but then are going to not play it up and start talking about "the next thing" or "going back to the old way" before the new product even has a chance to become successful? That'd be a slap in the face to the retailers who've bought heavily into the line...not a good way for Hasbro to do business. It'd be like Hasbro saying to Wal-Mart: "Hey, we actually think this stuff you just spent millions of dollars on is total crap and doomed to failure, but hey, please buy this other stuff instead!" So in short: Six months to a year from now, there will almost certainly be more "classic themed" product out there. Maybe not in classic packaging, but definitely classic looks. Until they announce that product (which probably won't be until Toy Fair of next year at the earliest), they are going to continue speaking as though RoC is the only game in town...because it is, and because they want that product to sell, and the retailers to feel like they're standing behind that product. Not to mention that if they announce "more classic product is coming!" and then something happens where it doesn't come (like say, Wal-Mart refusing to carry the line), can you imagine the fan outrage when it's cancelled? I would also note that even before we get "classic" product back on shelves, we'll probably get some movie kitbashes that look a whole lot more like classic incarnations of the characters (Classic Duke uniform with Channing Tatum's head, for example). Much like the "G1" repaints they tend to do on Transformers movie toys. Last edited by Jmacq1; 07-22-2009 at 01:46 PM.. |

I guess it depends on how you define the ARAH era. For me it's the O-Ring, ARAH is O-Ring, then VvV/Spytroops was new sculpt. But even during the "great" years of 82 to 91 there was alot of new uniforms. Grunt - 3 Clutch - 2 Rock 'n Roll - 3 Lt. Falcon - 2 Pysche-Out - 2 And that's just off the top of my head. There were multiple Roadblocks, Dukes, Flints, Recondos, Dustys, Lifelines, Shockwaves, Tunnel Rats, Major Bludds, Low-Lights, Spirits, Mutts, Footlooses, Snake-Eyes, Muskrats, Repeaters, Lightfoots, Gung-Hos and probably a couple of others.

The problem is that a lot of us were primarily collecting the 25th line to recapture memories form our childhood. Think of it in terms of Superheroes. Sure there are 500 billion different looks and interpretations of Spider-Man. Every new cartoon, movie, comic storyline, etc brings a new style or costume. However they always make a classic looking Spider-Man for fans who just want the standard version.
Everyone is pissed at Hasbro because we'd like to know the 25th line will continue in some form so we can continue to get updated classic figures in the cartoon/comic style. However for whatever reason Hasbro has had the attitude that it's ROC or nothing. This is why people are pissed. It's not cause there is a movie style Footloose, it's because we've been told that as far as they are concerned for now there will never be a classic Footloose. Hasbro should just say a modern era collector driven line will return with all our old favorites. They'd be stupid not to do this. |
