The first time my gf saw my joe collection set up in the display cases, she said "I love that you have this". She loves my collection of monsters even more and is encouraging me to put movie posters and halloween masks on the walls in the game room in the basement.
I'm a musician, she's an artist. We're weirdos to the normies.

MY wife finds it endearing and wholesome but will occasionally bust my chops or tease me about it. She knows that in NYC there too many other things that I could be spending my money on. I don't gamble, rarely drink anymore outside of family functions, and never mess around with other anything illegal. Like Sofia Vergara says about her husband playing D&D. She knows where I am and what I'm doing. I handle the bills and the retirement planning so I know what my expendable income is. I grab her a Wonder Woman figure once a year, and spoil her at Christmas/Birthdays. She has nothing to complain about.
Besides I own the house from before we met. If she's not happy she can leave the keys in the mail box.

She's fine with it, providing they're all kept tidy. She'd quite like to collect something in the same way but, again, the clutter puts her off.
I wish she'd stop putting my Joes in rude poses though. |

Sometimes she will make a comment about selling them or say I am crazy. I have a small corner of my basement with some closet shelving units I store everything in so its pretty much out of site and does not take up any room. Overall she is cool and as long as our finances are not impacted she does not care.
She did buy me the 25th anniversary Bazooka figure for our first Christmas - I sold it a few years ago along with all my modern Era stuff - I regret doing that now for sentimental purposes. |

Partner? I live under a benign dictatorship.
She's mostly cool with my hobbies since they keep me out of real trouble, but she also gets notifications whenever I use the debit/credit cards or Paypal, so we'll have the occasional "talk" when I cross some arbitrary line. Honestly though, that's mostly about T-bird parts these days. |

My wife is pretty understanding. Like a lot of yours, she doesn't like clutter when things get out of hand. She does ask me occasionally why I have stuff in boxes, since it's not doing anyone any good. I have to give her that one. I used to have a lot of my stuff on display (mainly Black Series, Battletech and McFarlane sports figures, which I customize). She asked me, not critically, why I feel the need to buy, say, a random Star Wars character. I explained to her that action figures, to me, are like art a "regular" person would put on the wall. I only buy nice figures that display well. She understood that sentiment pretty well.
Funny thing is, I barely display any GI Joe stuff. I really need to sell it all off. It really is useless for me to have now. Now, my customizing station...whoo, she gets a little antsy when I have a big order of figures I'm working on, because they spread out EVERYWHERE.

My wife didn't notice until one day she opened my cabinet that used to be filled to the brim with PC parts. I had rotated these out and had started stock piling Joes like the apocalypse was on it's way. Instead of hoarding food, I was hoarding Joes. LOL. Needless to say once my wife found out she was pissed. We worked it through that I need to sell some figures to keep my collecting going. Otherwise, she would kick my ass and leave me. So, now we are good and it was a little bit of a sensitive subject for a couple years.

When I got married, my old childhood toys were out in the garage in bins and I wasn't actively collecting at the time. Then about 6 years ago I repaired a bunch of my old broken joes, got the itch, and have been buying like crazy in the years since.
So, my first couple years of buying, I bought in bulk, sold off what I didn't want and would generally break even. Now I have a large enough collection built up that anytime I want something new, I can just go into my toy room and decide what I want to part with to raise funds for my new purchases. Long story short, as long as I'm breaking even and not putting us in debt, she's ok with it. I mean, we have the extra spare room anyway, so why not. (Plus it keeps the in-laws from asking to stay in the spare room, Bonus!!). Also, she, like alot of women, loves shopping, so she loves going out on my toy runs (Ross, Burlington, 5 Below, etc). Lastly, she collects Christmas decorations at nearly the same pace. So she doesn't have that much room to talk. |

My wife understands why I collect, but she doesn't care much for it but she also doesn't stop me. With me collecting G.I. Joes she know I'm not out getting in trouble.
