Was it the Revenge of Cobra mini-series, or the Marvel comic? Or did the action figure hit shelves first? I can't remember, I just remember first finding the figure whilst on vacation at my aunt's house in Dallas. It took us forever to get new toys down in San Antonio.

I never saw that figure in the store. Ever. But, my guess is the figure would have been designed first and then the comic and cartoon followed suit. Which one hit the market first though, I have no idea.
I think Revenge of Cobra premiered in 84 and the figure was part of the 85 line though. Anyone know what issue of Marvel it made the first apperance? Hmmmm.

I think revenge of cobra. He still had the goggles in the comic all thru 1984. I have no clue bout the figure tho cuz I sorta didn’t exist back then.

I'm old enough that I remember the V2 being in the cartoon vaguely, but young enough that I completely missed the figure at retail by a year or so. I remember being a bit disappointed when the '89 came out, because the visor was the look I had grown up with. Not too disappointed to be stoked on my first Snake Eyes, though. Say what you will about the secondary market, but I was SO happy to finally get the V2 back in the '00s.

I'd say for the Marvel run Issue 45 and Year book 2 both debuted SE v2 in march of 86. Per Yojoe both issues were released that same month year. I'd assume that was a directive from Hasbro? No way that's a coincidence. So it sounds like The Revenge of Cobra has it as it aired in September of 84 and the toy came out in 85.

Snake Eyes debuted his costume with the visor in GI Joe #45. Also in that issue are the first appearances of Alpine and Quick Kick and Hawk getting promoted to Brigadier General and is made Commander In Chief of GI Joe.

It also has a great cover. One of my favorites from the line. 45 and 46 are also two of my favorite issues.

I was just thinking, what if I’d never gotten snake eyes v2 as a kid, or even v1? Somehow seems like a sad thought. Silly though I know.
