On a recent Michael Mercy vid, 3DJoes dropped that Hasbro is currently restoring the HD original art of the Arah figures for a secret project. These are from film transfers, transparencies and marketing material. The original art is generally lost. Such art would be in contrast with the somewhat mid naughties computer recreations on the 25th cards. Vala has also stated that he was working on a 6 inch Joe line in his Hasbro times, but the project was eventually mothballed. Weber also stated on here that he was saving a Sunbow Duke figure for a Joe relaunch (thats why the 50th ones were not Sunbow). Derryl also stated on an interview at the last JoeCon that Hasbro was trying to decouple Joes from the movie cycle, but bring the line to kids in mediums that they partake. What does that mean, I don't know, but...
Could we be seeing a neo-25th line of 6 inchers with HD original cards if and when the line finally launches? Would you support such a line? Maybe a Sunbow style video game was in the works too??? |

Well, considering Hasbro let all those folks go and essentially shelved development of the brand, I'd say none of that matters now.

I’m of the opinion that the only thing have right now is hope & speculation.
There seems to be a solid fan base of grown ups that were 80’s kids plus their kids being introduced to the brand, etc. There does not seem to be any interest at Hasbro when it comes to the Joe brand. Is it dead? I really hope it is not. Time will tell. We have seen years worth of hiatus in the past. I will say with the popularity of 80’s nostalgia at the moment, Hasbro is probably missing out on a golden opportunity. It’s hard to imagine why they wouldn’t capitalize on it. With the Club ending and nothing but delays for the next movie....things do not look good.

Derryl DePriest was a scientist who wrote a collecting GI Joe book in 1999. Two years later Hasbro hired him because of his passion for Joe. How do we know they won’t hire Carson, Dan or Patrick Stewart? All I’m saying is just because they don’t have someone now doesn’t mean they won’t in the future. And that new person will have access to all past works and ideas.

Man, this has been an ongoing conversation the last five years as we seen the shuttering of the GIJCC, release of Hasbro executives, TRU closing and now little to no product using the license. Unfortunately, I think the future of action figures will be Kickstarters and crowd funders at this point. As far as GI Joe, it has now become a vintage collector's line for nostalgia, recognition of the engineers, designers and product managers who worked on the brand, as well as a custom makers line for reimaginings. I've lost hope we will ever see a G.I. Joe action figure line again in stores.

No arguement here on that. Kids today have more and different options today then ever. Play patterns have changed. In general, Kids stop playing with toys at an earlier age now. Video games are everywhere (systems, tablets & phones). Kids today can watch whatever they want, whenever and wherever they want. It’s amazing. Our toys and play patterns look as much like dinosaurs to them as our parents and grandparents toys and play patterns did to us. Gosh I remember playing “guns” outside with all my friends. We’d all have cap guns (the kind with the strings of plastic caps that look realistic) and run around outside playing war or Joe. Heck now if kids did that with realistic looking toy guns (non-Nerf), the neighbors would likely tell their children don’t associate with them, or call the cops or something. But yet kids can murder incessantly on video games most don’t bat an eye. Things are so different now. I do hope Joe can survive these changes in some form. I’d hate to see it die. My only point previously was that Joe passion/knowledge can be outsourced by Hasbro if and when they are ready. Here’s the part where I should shout, “get off my lawn!”

Judging by the various outlets we've seen for Joe in the last couple of years (shoes, keychains, Worlds' Smallest) I think outsourcing is the only answer.
