Back in 80's the Joes had several units that fit the role of a main battle vehicle/tank like the Persuader, HAVOC, and their own version of the M1 Abrams. However, none of those have be re-issued for the Modern Era.
Now, because I have always been more partial to the Cobra Forces, I really didn't notice that while Hasbro re-released multiple versions of Cobra's main battle tank, the Hiss I [though I'm still hoping for a HISS II release since that vehicle is more likely to stand up to an M1 Abrams, and to mention "awesome"] there is nothing in the recent Hasbro releases that could be said to fit the role of a main front line vehicle for the Joes. Does anyone know of any vehicles coming down the line that will be the Joes answer to the Hiss? There have been re-releases of the Snowcat, but I always found it funny to say that it is the main vehicle for the Joes since it was made for Artic warfare. Hasbro should manufacture a new vehicle along the lines of US Army Stryker or Bradley IFV so the Joes will have a combo main battle vehicle/troop carrier. Oddly enough, the Cobra's have this in the Hiss II [please Hasbro]. |

I think if you base it on the Sunbow cartoon and early comics, you could probably argue that it's the VAMP. While it certainly doesn't match up well with a tank, it kind of makes sense for a rapid deployment anti-terrorist group.

well it would have been nice if hasbro released a heavy battle vehicle but alas nothing. the two armadillo tanks released in the last couple years is the closest we'll get to some armor attack vehicle(the rhino doesn't count in my opinion).i really wish hasbro would re-release the wolverine or the mauler.

I like the RHINO as a toy, but am biased against it for a couple of reasons. My main issue with the RHINO was it was a SIGMA 6 vehicle, and I just didn't think the series reflected what GI JOE was.
Also, an APC/Copter combo makes me think it is more appropriate as a MASK vehicle rather than a vehicle in the Joe universe [which is funny since Hasbro also released Matt Tracker as a Joe, so I guess MASK is in the Joe universe]. |

I agree with paraviper's sentiments, and will take it further. I always felt that the MOBAT was one of the fails as far as the toy models go. I used to think that the mold was simila to Soviet T-72 and was wondering why the Joes were using a Vietnam War era tank.
Looking at it now, I guess the MOBAT is a Challenger/Abrams mold, but, if this is the case, then the scaling is way off. I think it was smaller than a Joe Slugger, which was a self propelled cannon. [On the other side though, while the Mauler had a more believable scale, it dwarfed the Hiss, so that it made Cobra look ineffectual]. The Joes definitely need the Mauler back though, if Hasbro is not going to make something new. |

I think the MOBAT was based off of the M60 Patton, which was the Main Battle Tank of the US when it came out. It might also be designed after the M-70, which never made it to production. Either way, I really don't think they had the Abrams in mind.
