I've been binging on the black major/red laser products lately.
As you all may know, the figures occasionally have some loose joints. I've been correcting the arms by using some lacquer and plumber's tape (which seems to do the trick). Occasionally, I've come across back screws that don't seem to "catch" well. The screw will keep turning and never stops from the typical resistance. These screws almost always correlate with loose arms since the chest/back can't close tightly. Any recommendations to fix this? I'm thinking a larger/longer screw for the chest/back piece will do better? Would anyone know if these exist (i.e maybe at home depot/lowes). What size are the back screws and what is the next biggest size available? |

Measuring guide And since measuring the thread density/distance can be tricky, here is a handy reference PDF with a lot of common threads on it: Thread size comparison sheet Print it out and hold your screw's threads up to each sample on the paper until you find a match. Once you figure out what size you have now, just bump up one size or length and give it a shot. I've ordered from Fastenal before with pickup at a local distributor for free and it went quite well. If you have a Fastenal location in town it's worth a look.

Thanks, super helpful. Will give it a try. Any experience with upsizing? Any risks?

What happens if you put the screw directly into the chest piece without the back piece attached? Will it thread or "catch" like that? Sometimes the threads on the shaft get stripped and no amount of twisting will get the screw to catch. If the screw can catch without the back piece in the way, then a longer screw that goes deeper could be the fix.
I actually just got my first couple of Red Laser figures a couple weeks ago, and one of the figures has the same shoulder problem you're describing (well, lots of joint problems, really), though tightening the existing screw helped slightly. I'm honestly afraid to even try fully tightening the screw since the materials these figures use are kind of dubious and I feel like I'm walking on eggshells every time I handle them at all.

Yeah, I feel you. I've already lost a couple in the operating room.
I tried the screw into the chest piece alone, and it keeps turning. I'm hoping a wider screw will catch the plastic better and hold tighter. Will let you know how it goes. Another question, are the rivets for the arms a single piece it 2? I see a go selling them on eBay, but with only single pieces |

The Red Laser figures I have look like the rivets are identical in style to that of Joes.
