Hi everyone. I have rather large collection of GIJoes and Transformers and I was ask what I had planned if something were to happen to me. I have a niece and a nephew but I don't think they would take care of the collection if it were given to them. My thoughts and I've suggested it to my brother was to have an auction and have the money split between the two kids. But I'd want to have the auction advertised a month or two before so collectors could try to come and bid. Any thoughts?

How would you guys do the auction? Would you put them on ebay, and then put the listing in the BST thread here on the Tank? Or would it be a local option at like an antique store? I don't do them, but I guess Facebook has auctions too. Your other option is to donate them to a museum and maybe they can set up a dio, and everyone can enjoy them. I'm sure, there's some articles online for putting a toy collection in a will.

I actually have that in my will... everything goes to C.I.A.D. when I die. He can sell it, keep it or burn it... I'll be dead so I won't mind.
I have plenty of life insurance on myself that'll cover my wife, she doesn't have to worry about selling my collection.

Haven't really thought about it, but I suppose what I'd do is give everything to my son and let him decide. His daughter is 4 and has gotten curious about my stuff, so she could keep what she wants and they could sell the rest.

I've had to deal with the other side of this sorta recently, as a friend left me his collection of crap. I've decided the best thing to do is sell it off and put the proceeds into a college account for his son and daughter...it's a such a fucking hassle! It feels like this is a never-ending task of sorting through bottomless boxes of things. It's so much stuff, it weighs on my mind. The experience has made me realize I don't want to put anyone else through a similar experience, so I plan on not having most of this shit by the time I die. Bad enough my family is gonna have to deal with my cars, motorcycles, tools, clothing, papers, "artwork" and the rest of my detritus without also having to dick with a bunch of action figures.

Personally, I have begun to sell it all off because I don’t want my wife to have to think about. I am cutting the collection down to one or two rubber maids total. It takes a lot of effort to photo and write up auction descriptions. Unless, you have a friend or relative that has agreed to do this, don’t just add them to a will otherwise they will either hate you for dying and leaving them a ton of work, miss you and wish you were there to help sort through the mess or just through it up as a lot and take whatever someone offers thus not really leaving anything for your family of value.
I have thought about the donate option but I thought I have read posts here, in the past, about people trying to and museums politely declining large collections. Just my thoughts on it.

If you want something to happen when you die, you have to put it in your will. It’s easy to put faith in people, but death brings out the worst in everyone. I’ve seen some of the nicest people fighting over who gets the push mower, and who gets the rider. Shits really sad honestly. My wife got gifted a nice car when her uncle died. So many people were arguing and fighting over stuff she just opted out and gave it to her mother who really did need it at the time. We had a couple cars and didn’t want to deal with any of it. It was just disturbing all around. I felt bad for my wife to have to see her family like that. Still grinds my gears.

They literally took the blanket from under my dog because it was my wife's old blanket. Funny thing, they didn't want anything dealing with me and her... only her.
