Ebay has done a lot to protect the buyers and leaving the sellers stuck with no recourse. We can't even leave negative feedback for buyers.

As a buyer, I figure offering anything less than 80% is a bit insulting. As a seller, I don't take offense to much, but if an offer is less than 60%, I might not even bother to respond. I usually list things close to my bottom price, so I usually won't take less than 80-90% of my listing price, unless the buyer is looking at multiple auctions. When I sold my marvel universe figures, there were several buyers than

Wow, well, maybe I've insulted quite a few people over the years. I sort of assumed 50% was the cutoff for an offer before it gets insulting. There's been quite a few items I've bought over the years, where my initial offer was about 50%, and after a bit of back and forth, I ended up buying the item for about 60-65% of the original listing. Low offers can lead to getting some great deals.

For me, and other sellers I've noticed, the Make an Offer is for you to have the opportunity to negotiate especially if you are getting multiple items. I usually set the auto decline to be a price that I will not even bother with you if you try below that. I usually have quite a lot of wiggle room for mine.

I remember offering $7 on an $8 missile and the seller declined it, hahaha.

Sometimes the price a seller is asking for an item is so ridiculous, I wonder if they're actually trying to sell it. Like the average price for an item is $30, but the seller has it listed at $179.99 or some such silly shit. I figure the seller doesn't really want to get rid of it, but if someone is dumb enough to buy it for that much, they'll part with it. Maybe the wife is demanding the guy un-ass some shit, so he lists it at a crazy price and points to it saying, "See! I'm trying, but no one wants to pay what it's worth!"

Maybe it's a case of just hoping for that one sucker. I think flea market and antique dealers operate like that sometimes, but in those cases the browsers usually can't just run a auction search and find the item cheaper.
They may have automatic relisting and never check anything. I accidentally did that "good until cancelled" and it kept eating up a lot of my 50 free listings with stuff that will never sell, at least not until I drop the price a lot. |

I do this sometimes where I'll put something for a high price. It's basically something I'm on the fence about but if someone is willing to pay the high price, he can have it.

Question for the sellers who use the 'best offer' setting (I rarely do). If someone low balls you, and it auto-declines, do you even get a notification from eBay of their offer & the auto decline? I've been curious about that. Sometimes I've thrown out offers that I thought were reasonable, yet were auto-declined, and I'm curious if the seller can see that.
