I don't get too many non-paying winners. I get some that take a long time to pay but almost every time, they contact me before the end of auction to ask if they can take longer to pay and every time, they do pay.
I've had a few that just didn't pay at all and I had to file a claim to get my fees back. The other ones, they win and say they made a mistake or that their kid got into their account and bid, which honestly, I think it's BS. One even checked out and paid and claimed it happened while the phone was in their pocket and they didn't know they 'butt purchased'. When some who out bids me and canceles at the end I assume it's another account of the seller looking to jack up the auction to see how high I'll go. I don't take such bait. Like Xerofall said, at this point I'm so disgusted by auctions from both sides that I stick to buying and selling as buy it nows.

I don't sell on eBay much, it's the same for me. I go one step further and do free shipping anywhere in North America (I price the shipping into the BIN price and round it down a bit). Since I'm in Canada, before doing this I spent so much time responding to messages about shipping costs, that it was simpler to go that route. Stuff takes a bit longer to sell (despite the fact that my overall price is lower than most other listings price + shipping), but I usually move my stuff out.

Anyone can make multiple ebay accounts and immediately bid on auctions without verifying a payment option.
If a competitor bids up your auction, you need to relist, which costs you money and time so it's always worth their time to screw you. Not to mention a lot of teens and kids actually bid up listings for fun without understanding how ebay works, same effect. It's gotten so bad that no one uses auction unless they have to. |

They not only strongly pressure you, they make it a default on their mobile app.
It's fucking annoying. I was selling something last night at $250 dollars and their "suggested offer" was set to $125! Fuck that, fuck them. I got a ton of offers before I was able to edit my listing, and I'm sure it pissed a few people off. The app is a joke, you have to tool into fields to remove their defaults. T I hooked up with good deals because they bought anywhere from 5 to 15 figures...

i'm hearing more bad then good here. now I really don't want to learn how to sell on ebay. i'll stick to selling things at local con's here to get rid of stuff. it means I have a pile of crap in my joe room all the time but its safer and more fun. I don't sell to make money, I sell for fun as con's can be really fun. hell I even loose money on things. if some 5 year old comes to my booth and has his bday money in his hand and has 5 bux on a 10 dollar item. i'm taking the 5 just to make his day. you cant do that one ebay. I always cut people a deal if I only make a dollar over what I paid I don't care BUT if your an asshole, tear up my booth and don't put things back from where you picked it up from and offer me 10 bux on a 40 dollar figure i'm not budging off my price.

I find eBay frustrating (the 10% fee is the biggest problem, honestly), but if you avoid auctions, you will avoid most of the annoyances people are talking about here. I've cleared out a ton of stuff this year to make way for a Joe collection and a Mythic Legions collection, and I've sold all of it but one item on eBay.

Yeah, stick with BINs and avoid auctions and you'll be better off.
In the past my auctions never go very high, so I end up losing a lot of money. Yet when I bid on something I always gets outbid and it ends up well beyond my threshold. If that's a result of shill bidding, then so be it. The funny thing was eBay used to allow you to see the other bidder's names, so it was easier to see if there was shill bidding going on, but now their names are obscured.

They've come a long way in my nearly 20 years of using them (been registered since 1999) but man oh man, they have taken some steps back in the last few. |
