I’ve recently watched the Dic series out of curiosity; it’s comparable to the Sunbow series in a lot of ways. But I found any of Metal-Head heavy episodes to be irritating. The caricature that ended up being that character was nauseous.
And the figure design for Mace was not very good. The head sculpt reminds of a conservative talkshow host or something, so no thanks. It’s really fugly. But I was looking more at the details of his file card and his lengthy deep cover within the Cobra organization. Like, what role did he serve in Cobra - was he a trooper or someone higher ranking? I feel like that could have made a very interesting story arc in comic form. Or still could. Maybe he’s still undercover, collating intel reports to the day he’s found out or Cobra is defeated... |

If we’are talking about the cartoon, then basically half of the ‘87 Joes, all of the ‘88 Joes, and any original characters introduced after ‘91. If it’s the comic, well, pretty much anyone who’s isn’t connected to Snake Eyes in some way.

Always been a fan of Crystal Ball, but he never got any love in the original Marvel run. Scrap-Iron was also pretty underused, considering he was one of the original Cobras, compared to Bludd, Baroness, Zartan, Storm Shadow, Destro, etc.

Sky Patrol; the Renegades in the comics, at least; Blizzard; Sub-Zero; Wind Chill; Cold Front; Freefall; Pathfinder; Snow Storm; Salvo; Recoil; a LOT of vehicle drivers.

Still, I’d like to know what Mace’s “special issue embossed jacket” is capable of doing...

Maybe it has the power to get him into any club without waiting in line.

I'd say starting in 1985/86 several of the new characters were meant as replacements as older characters. There's even a Marvel issue where Lady Jaye and Ripcord announce that they are Scarlett and Grunt's replacements. I've thought it would be cool to have a list of Original Character compared to their replacements. For example (in my opinion):
Ripcord = Airborne Roadblock = Rock n Roll Bazooka = Zap Footloose = Grunt Lady Jaye = Scarlett Beach Head = Stalker Dial Tone = Breaker Ice Berg = Snow Job Leather Neck = Gung-Ho Lifeline = Doc Sci Fi = Flash etc., etc. Jason |
