Good news, I suspect we will see a return to the late 70s and 80s with a few brand new toy store chains trying to get ahold of that lost market share. I just don't want Wal Mart to pick up any of that market. I have five Wal marts in my town and they toy sections in each one are constantly half stocked and or in some cases just completely empty of merchandise...especially Hasbro products.

Hell, the Walmart’s here look like a bomb went off in the toy aisles. Open and wrecked packages, empty pegs and shelves. Basically a complete lack of stock and a total joke.

It says "The locations will sit alongside its Halloween City shops and run through the holiday season." I hope this doesn't refer to physical locations. We don't get any Halloween City's near me.
I wonder how this will affect stocking carrying over year to year. Most of the seasonal Halloween stores simply close their doors on 11/1, and don't do clearance sales. Possibly in 5 years, we would see then rare expensive toys at these retail stores? This could be very interesting. |

I think most stores are realizing that there is money to be had here with toy inventory which would then increase the foot traffic in their stores. As any good, successful business is aware, getting people in the doors is half the battle.

I’d be more excited if there was going to be any Joe or Marvel Universe stuff available this fall.... I’ll probably check out whatever Chap Mei/PTE stuff they may get. The TRU pop ups would get 1/18th Maisto cars sometimes too.

Exactly. New toy stores don’t matter if nobody makes the toys we want.

Hope this leads to permanent stores. I mean, you buy the stuff for the party and the gifts! Isn't that a good idea?

That's not to say we might not see more kids or specialty stores like Gamestop, Hot Topic, Disney Stores, or kids apparel stores step up to carry more toys (especially around Christmas), but I'm not sure there is a vast untapped market for toys, not in the current cultural perception of toys in general.
