This is a new thread for stories about losing/finding or both of old joes when you were a kid, inspired by Skrapps' Holy Archeological find!! thread.
I have two stories like this, the first is in Seattle in around 88 I was playing with my joes in my back yard. While turning the garden area into a war zone I unearthed a fixed arm Grand Slam, which I assume was lost by whatever kid lived there before me. This was additionally awesome as he was a figure I didn't already have. This prompted a massive toy mining attempt, which I'm sorry to say did not unearth any further joe gold. The second involves one of my very first joes, a fixed arm Stalker which I had lost a wile after buying. I was watering a large ficus plant in our Alaska house when I was about 19. The ficus was about 10 ft tall, but when I was 7 it was maybe 3 ft. I was misting it when I noticed something sitting in the branches: my Stalker, which I had sat in a Y in the branches when I was little, and since he was camouflaged I didn't see for another 12 years.

When I was 8, I was throwing a GI Joe up as high as I could, and it landed on top of one of the entrance signs to the Lakewood Mall. I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but it was the blond sky patrol guy. Dark grey vest, light grey arms/legs.
When I was 16, I was hanging out with some friends and remembered the incident, and climbed up there on a whim, and found him. He was broken at the waist, was all sun-bleached, and weirdly one of his feet was missing from the knee down. I threw him away, but now I wish I'd kept him. I loved that guy.

It was around !986, maybe 1987 and my best friend threw my 1984 Zartan up on his roof (don't recall why). Forgot all about it til 2001 when his grandmother was having her roof (he lived with her) replaced and, in a pile of old shingles next to the house, I found him laying there. Needless to say, he no longer changed color. Oddly, none of his joints were rusted. All that really remained of him though was the upper torso (no waist or legs) and his hood was gone.
I could have just thrown him away, but instead I decided to fix him up. When I got done, it looked ALMOST brand new. Still have him in my collection. Even though I sold most of old stuff (minus 25th), I keep him as a reminder of how much I loved Joe back then, and still do today. |

One day me and one of the kids who lived in my neighborhood were playing with our joes in my basement. I had one of those light green Bazookas that came with the glider and after the kid left, I couldn't find that figure! So naturally, I assumed the kid had stolen him.
Years later when I was a teen, I was poking around in an old box of toys and picked up this plastic truck that had a storage tank on it. I remembered how I used to pop the tank off since it was hollow, and stow stuff inside it. So, on a whim, I popped it open. And what did I find? Bazooka. I guess I had been using that truck when we were playing Joes all those years ago and decided to hide him in there and forgot. Good thing I never openly accused him of stealing. |

My brother and I spent the night at our friends house, and brought out Gi Joes, and hid them around the house.
2 years later they found Mainframe, and thought it was some kind of miracle, but really it was my brothers that he had lost when we were playing. We never told them about it though as we were too ashamed of losing a guy in their house |

Great stories.
No great lost stories from me, but the first Joe ever to see the inside of my house was found on the school playground. I think my mother made me bring him back to the school. But I decided that he left because he didn't like the looks of the Star Wars Death Star elevator where Darth Vader had imprisoned him. Maybe six months or a year later I got my first Joes....

About 5 years ago, my wife and I were at an Osco Pharmacy in central Phoenix when up by the pharmacy cash register was the Bruno Sheppard (was that his name?) action figure from M.A.S.K.! It was pretty obvious some kid lost him, so I left him there.
Here are some more of my favorite losses (Joe and non joe): Murdock's (from the A-Team) M-16 rifle is buried underneath Interstate 10 at 91st Avenue. I lost it playing in a dirt pile when the freeway was under construction. My childhood backyard also contains Matt Trakker's helmet, Princess Leia's Boushh Disguise helmet, Zarana, Bazooka, and God knows what else. |

I found Hawk v. 2 at a neighborhood playground half buried in the sand. He must not have been there long because he was still in great shape with no rust. I was excited because I never saw him in the stores. I picked up the Battle Gear Accessory Pack # 5 just for the brown Hawk v. 2 helmet. To this day, when I think of Hawk v. 2, I picture him with that brown helmet, brown Lifeline backpack, and brown Leatherneck rifle.
About a year I found a Super Go-Bots Cy-Kill on the sidewalk in my neighborhood. He was extremely paint worn but otherwise was in OK shape. What a strange thing to just find laying on the sidewalk in 2008. |
