Marauder's Series 8 gave customers about 4 new Sniper Rifles (not counting color variations) to choose from. Hasbro has also released some cool Sniper Rifles with characters (Low Light, Shooter, Destro).
It seems to me, and I certainly could be wrong, that Hasbro usually just throws a weapon that looks cool with a character without much regard on whether they would actually use it in the real world. I'm not very keen on modern weapons and which branch of service uses what. There are several Joes that can be considered Snipers or Marksmen: Scarlett, Low Light, Cross Hairs, Snow Job, Shooter, etc. Some of the info I've found on Sniper Rifles indicates that certain Rifles are limited to a particular branch. For example, I'm thinking the MK12 "MTF SOPMOD Sniper Rifle w/ Scope" is used more by the Navy. So, could someone with knowledge of actual military weapons please list which Sniper Rifles each character would actually use in the real world? I think it would be cool to have like a catalogue of which weapons would actually be used by the Joe Team. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks. Jason |

In active service (some branches or limited roles)
M38 SDMR (Squad Designated Marksman Rifle) (5.56×45mm NATO) (USMC Designated Marksmen) HK417 (7.62×51mm NATO) (USSOCOM) Mk 17 Mod 0 (7.62×51mm NATO) (USSOCOM) Mk 14 EBR (Enhanced Battle Rifle) (7.62×51mm NATO) (USCG, US Army, USAF Designated Marksmen/EOD) M39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle (7.62 NATO) (USMC Designated Marksmen/Scout Snipers) Truth be told though, if it's delta force/special forces, they can usually pick their gear, and sometimes have to hide their nationality (so they use for example a Dragunov sniper rifle or similar), that being said most pick the gear they have trained with. |

SOF will also use foreign weapons to make it easier for them to scavenge ammo if they wind up on a long duration mission and running low with no chance of a resupply. Far easier to swipe AK mags off the dead terrorists than to try finding STANAG mags for NATO weapons.
