My kids have quite a bit of Lego, and even more Duplo. Learning how Duplo and Lego fit together really blew my mind, and rekindled my idea of using Lego to make playsets for 3.75 figures, namely Joes and SW. This video gives you the kernel of the possibilities:
However the studs on Legos do not mix well with (non BTR) action figure feet. How to bridge this gap? How about stands that have studs for ME Joes and SW? That would be the perfect product for a KS (especially before the advent of common light based 3D printing). Absolutely perfect for any up and coming toy company that might peruse these forums. I have stacks of the Lego stands acquired as in the attached picture from bootleg minifigs (commonly available in Parts Unknown). I'll glue one to an action figure base later and post the results. The added height of two bases may be subpotimal due to balancing issues, but should be good enough for a proof of concept. Last edited by Bubbavader; 07-02-2018 at 04:34 AM.. |

So, you're thinking of an ME-compatible figure stand that can attach to LEGO bricks, preferably one with the height/thickness of a standard LEGO plate?

That would be the goal, but I don’t think I can pull it off. Just putting the idea out there and doing a proof of concept.

Give me a few days, and I'm sure I could make it happen. I don't have many LEGO parts sitting around, so specs for a 2x4 plate would be useful in the interim.

Dimensions of a LEGO brick can be found here. Please note the scale, 1 LDU = 0.4 mm.

And while the stud (knob on top of the brick) is 4.8 mm in width, the anti stud (hollow the stud fits snugly into) is a hair smaller. I have not ever seen someone provide an exact measurement. It is my understanding LEGO determines the anti-stud size, based on how much clutch is needed between the anti stud and a regular stud.

Here are some pics (of a glued one), this one is obvisouly much too large. It may not really be necessary, but this snake eyes has extra good balance (Roc Moto Storm Shadow not so much). Perhaps a single stud on a 2x2 tile may be all that is needed, although a 3x8 stud tile feels right in my mind.

Come to think of it, a single foot unit would be best. Think of it like a BTR adapter, all of the good with none of the clunk

Hmmm, even a single stud might be enough clutch power, a few more would also help as well. A single foot solution might be best since the clutch power replaces the need for the large flat counterbalance plate of traditional stands.
Just an idea of shapes. Square seems to gave more clutch. Single stud, single stud. Hanging Stormy. Single stud? Note the extra weight from the two stands is held by a single stud. Possible arrangement. Transparent might be best? Last edited by Bubbavader; 03-27-2018 at 11:22 AM.. |
