I got a 3d printer a few months a go. So naturally I've been printing like mad. I've found printing 3-3/4" helment and armor parts are pretty easy. But small weapons like guns not so much. Becuase of how to orient them on the bed and still have the details is hard. The best I've found is to split the gun in half long ways. Then have the split side face the bed. Then glue the two pieces together after they print. I was woundering if anyone else has tried printing 3-3/4" guns in a better way?

What sort of printer have you got? Have any pics of any other items you've printed so far?
I have not successfully gotten any weapons to print as of yet (though I haven't tried printing any recently, either), so I don't have any specific tips to offer. I do think that weapons are not especially feasible to print on the majority of types of consumer-grade printers due to the need for support material, or basic X/Y/Z resolution limitations. I am curious about what types you're trying to print, and how large/detailed they are.

Sorry forgot I had this thread and haven't got any notifications in my email either. I have a creality CR-10 the newest and biggest one. I love it for what it does. I'm looking at getting a spark maker sla 3d printer for my second one.
I recently started expanding the weapons I have downloaded. Making them wider or longer as needed instead of just sizing the hole then i just cut them in half long was as i mentioned be for. Then print and glue together. the widening or just making the handles fatter really helps. I use Netfab by Autodesk by auto desk. make a account like you are a student and you can get it for free. For the destiny fans you can get almost any armor part or weapon file from here Destiny STL Generator. I found if you print the armor with zero infill it is easier to work with. also scaled the armor to the .06 to .08. I do body armor to .06 and for helmets .08 works best. I just used some helments and armor to make some new figures. My sizing is kind of all over the place as I make a lot of g.i.Joe, 3-3/4 marvel, and mcfarland halo hybrid's. and what fits 25th joes doesn't always fit 3-3/4 hulk. as you can guess the 3d printer is awesome for this. Oh and Netfab is great for creating your own weapons. I took a bunch of different guns and cut them up digitally to create a new one that I then printed.

3d printer are awesome once you start to get the hang of it and if you have 3d design knowledge. I use to working architecture before I switch to IT. So I was able to create some of my own parts in autocad. You can find thing that others have made on yeggi.com and thingiverse.com. There are a lot of cosplay stuff, warhammer, and collectable type things. Then then there are some random parts lol ike game controller hangers and other things. Not to many spare part type things for joes that are free anyway. Most of the spare part stuff will cost you quiet a bit. To much if you ask me but to each is own. Ive seen those on the pay and print for you sites.
