i completely agree with this. i assume all sb's are the same? they modern ones have been updated gear wise which i assume is just that. the same brigade just with new stuff.
in all honesty i could carless about GS's or SB's. i never used my make-a-joe back in the day either. yes he was "me" which was cool, but he wasnt a joe to me. he had no history per say. i still dont use them to this day, or much of any sub really. never understood the sub teams much. but thats a rant for another day. same with Super Trooper. i ordered him, played with him for a week, tossed him in the bin. i'll have to start a thread about him. |

Back then, Greenshirts only existed in the Sunbow series, while the Steel Brigade were exclusive to the toyline. Both served the same role, just in different corners of the property.
I'm curious how/if the Classified line will introduce the concept of G.I. Joe cannon fodder. |

I have never much cared for greenshirts or steel brigade. Neither have a place in my joe verse.

in my fan-fic, Steel Brigade was a joint program between the Joes and the CIA, placing four-man teams in unfriendly or merely non-allied nations undercover that could facilitate Joe operations or conduct covert ops for the Agency. After the Joes were disbanded in 1994, the program was taken over as a solely Agency operation. All members were SF types, like Marines, Rangers, SEALs, Delta, etc. One group of four ended up being given places in the reinstated Joe team in 1995 after they helped destroy the Red Shadows base in the Republic of Georgia. They were a SEAL named Lone Star, a Delta operator named Alpha Dog, a Marine named Jarhead and a Ranger named Firebolt, which was my SB figure's name as a kid.

I'm curious how/if the Classified line will introduce the concept of G.I. Joe cannon fodder. You'd think they would since they introduced the generic Cobra Trooper and Viper and BAT and a generic ninja. |

Green shirts are anonymous cannon fodder. Steel Brigade is ME!! I am a super badass special operations ninja, who can also pilot a fighter jet. No contest

Right. I never understood how Steel Brigade came to represent the lowest level Joe recruit. Why would you want to be an expendable bullet-sponge for the Joe team?
The best soldiers made it into G.I. Joe. If you were as good as Snake-Eyes, you could be a Joe. The best Joes got bumped up to Steel Brigade. If you were as good as Wolverine (my code-name), you could make Steel Brigade. |

POC seems to be where Steel Brigade became cannon fodder. Here's an excerpt from the file card:
STEEL BRIGADE troopers are the backbone of the G.I.JOE fighting force. The "Grunts" of the team, they are chosen for their exceptional dedication and skills. They work hard to hone their skills so that they can move up the ranks into specialized positions. They meet every challenge with determination and enthusiasm, and eagerly go on missions where they can watch and learn from their superiors. |
