They are going to try.
hey have already stated that a new movie is underway and there will be a line of figures to go with it. I think Hasbro said they are basically trying to follow in Marvel's footsteps and create a universe type of brand for GI Joe that can span multiple movies. Whether or not it will work, and the Joe brand will be revitalized is yet to be seen. But they are going to try. |

Hascon 2019 is a good possibility we will see some kind of announcement and product, whatever it might be.
They need to reimagine the brand and make it viable with this generation, if that is even possible. If not, a return to DTC would be nice with repaints of already created molds like the Club has done.

I'm sure the name GI Joe will return, but I'm not sure the iteration will satisfy fans. I'm a ARAH fan from the my youth and as such prefer that scale and mythology. Recreating that mystique may not be possible. If the brand is to have legs, it has to shift its focus to bring youth and new technology in.

Even if there is another movie, I still would wager that it will not be undiluted GI JOE as we know it. Rather (IMHO), a very plausible model would be for them to mash it up with MASK technology. In that way, they make it a nudge less 'real world' military and a bit more 1980s James Bond and add playability to the vehicles. You can have things like the Rise of Cobra styled 'Steel Crusher', but loaded with hidden missiles, side saw blades, front ramming spikes that deploy from behind the front bumper, or motorcycles with pop-out wings. A vehicle like the Slingshot already looks custom made to launch a firebat..
