After attending Joe Con in Orlando this year, we got word that next year will indeed be the final year for the G.I. Joe Collector's Club and Joe Con, and no new retail product from Hasbro for 2017/2018 (or until the next movie or media project). The writing has been on the wall for a few years now, but we as fans have kept the fire burning even during droughts in collecting cycles.
How will you continue collecting ARAH/Modern Era G.I. Joes? For me, I plan to continue acquiring vintage ARAH vehicles that fit with my modern era collection. I also will look at 3rd party companies, like Marauders and Boss Fight, to create custom or updated versions of classic ARAH characters. I'm a customizer, so will also buy other military toy lines (like The Corps and True Heroes) to create new imaginings of ARAH era vehicles. I've got almost a complete modern era collection, so will work to fill any gaps I still have. I plan to attend more local toy shows, and visit my local vintage toy shops in my area.

I'm torn. Sure we can argue and debate that the ME had just as long as a run as the 80s ARAH and honestly how much further could hasbro and FP go. On the other , it's going to feel very empty not having that annual excitement of joe con and news on upcoming figures. I'm a big 3rd party tfs collector and I'm just not feeling the 3rd party army lines. They are just nameless generic characters and don't fit in my joe display universe.
I will focus on appreciating the time we have left with the club and focusing on filling all gaps in collecting and setting up my man cave which I look forward to sharing with you all. I will appreciate the joe sites to continue to share my joe interest and conversations on the boards |

Without retail, I won't be collecting any more joes. I'm happy with what I got. Im gonna continue my 3.75 universe with articulated SW figures. I'm looking forward to the Vintage collection in 2018. And I'm seriously considering BFS. |

I understand this is a poll about how to keep collecting, but what about, "Be content with what I already have and stop buying more"? (Since you have an option about being done = selling everything.)
If its not G.I. Joe, it has no meaning to me. I plan to enjoy the figures and vehicles I have, but being "done" doesn't mean we have to sell everything off. :-)

I don't mind not having stuff to buy. I'll take a little more time catching up on my dio-stories. My second annual issue is almost complete.

I have such feelings about this. Such feelings. Much sad.
1) I feel that this won't be a hiatus. I feel Hasbro is just saying that to keep us 'happy'. They havent put any marketing into the line for years and their shared universe seems to be a bust so far. The comics are terrible and I dont see much happening with the shared universive beyond the comics. I know the joke of 'death of the line' is beating a dead and rotting corpse, but this is the death of the line. It's Hasbro's own doing. Poor distrubution, poor case assortments, too many copies of Snakes Eyes and Duke. 2) I will continue to support MGR by buying them up in fairly large quaintities (I have been doing an average of two orders a month, between $50-100 per order), but the generic army building is getting a little stale. I have been trying to fix that staleness by recreating Joes (working on the OG 13-like everyone and their mother is, as well as some other cool Joes and comic characters). I wish they would start to make more heads and perhaps original characters. I didnt get on the kickstarter for MGR or Eagleforce, but I preordered a lot of Eagle Force from BBTS. I hope they are successful and make the monster force and everything else they have been teasing. I am sad to have to wait almost another year for the Eagle Force to come out. I am a 1/18 guy, so I will support and buy any third party stuff as long as the figures look great and the articulation is great. 3) I will continue to buy SW as long as they are SA. Sounds liek the Vintage line will be my only choice for that. I hope they start marketing the vintge line to all the major brick stores and not just Walmart. 4) This will give me a chance to focus on getting some of the ARAH vehicles I am missing. I also want to start picking up spare FSS figures so I can feel comfortable opening up the ones I currently have and playing and displaying them. Ditto any SDCC stuff I am missing/ wanting doubles of to open. I just hope this community doesnt go away. I feel like I just got dumped and I need the support of my friends. |
