Many of us have been buying brand new Joes non-stop at retail since 1982. The question is what makes someone disloyal to supporting the ongoing brand and preferring to stunt their collecting growth by focusing on outdated stuff from the past that is ancient history by now?

I love them both. I think for most of us with the o-ring figures their is a deep nostalgic factor. I remember back my senior year in high school in 99/00 I went on a huge kick to try and buy up so many of the vehicles and figures I missed out on as a kid. Most of my Joe memories were of the early 90s variety and I wanted to go back and get all the stuff I missed out on or did not appreciate as much as a younger kid in the 80s. I bought and sold the older stuff for a few years in the early 00s until I sold most of my collection for beer money in college.
The ME figures were a nice surprise to me and a new and more modernized look to the Joe line. I have a bunch of them and really appreciated all the vintage vehicles that hasbro has re-released. With the ME line slowing down to what looks like no new figures this year I think people will begin to appreciate the ME Joe run of the past 10 years alot more - especially when compared to the early 00s stuff with those retooled o-ring figures (spy troops, venom vs valor etc.). |

When I got back into collecting, I started with the ME figures and they are really good and filled in some characters I always wanted, Dr. Venom, Pythona, Kwinn etc... but G.I. Joe is also as much about the vehicles and playsets to me and that is why I stopped the ME and went back to 80's ARAH. Flagg, Whale, Hydrofoil, Terrordrome etc... are all important parts of the line and that is where the ME falls short for me. Plus there is the nostalgia part of my brain that pushed me toward vintage too.

I like them both but I'm a child of ARAH so o-ring will always have a place in my heart.
The ME are more aesthetically pleasing and I love the fact that most can put two hands on a rifle but have we already forgotten Duke arms? Diaper crotch? Figs that have less range of motion than their 30 year old counterparts? Helmets that don't stay on? To me, o-ring Joes are a better toy but the ME figs are better collectibles. |

I love them both as well, but one group gets stowed away in protective bins and the others are displayed all of the time. I'll let you guess which is which.

For me its like this. Arah is the Single greatest toy line of all time. I honestly don't think anything even comes close to the playability of the 82-94 run. Transformers may be the onky thing that comes remotely close. SW WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE SHIT IN COMPARISON TO JOE. Getting back to the point here I think while the ME joes are fantastic but they do lack that playability to the originals had. I can't understand why Hasbro has been missing this. Seriously think about it just about every Oring was interchangeable with the rest of the line. Meaning the weapons and gear could be used with just about any other figure and they were all pretty much able to fit into every vehicle. Fast foward some 30 years and Hasbro can't get figures to hold the accessories that are included with the figure. Again I am not knocking the ME line as I do love it but I can see why its not all that popular with kids today.

I prefer ME for my custom work, posability, and aesthetics. BUT... Kids need the oring-type durability for playing, and the ease of which to mix parts! Kids can customize/LBC the heck out of orings--that was half the fun--but not nearly as well with ME.

I like my modern figures, but I am partial to the old o-rings myself. I read a post where someone stated the new figures are more detailed. I'd say it is like 50-50. There are some unbelievable modern figures (POC Snake Eyes, Renegades Duke, 50th Gung Ho) but then I could make a list of at least a dozen or so cooler RAH characters who have yet to have a modern figure do the original justice. And that's without even trying...
