After months and months of searching in vain ,i finally caved in and bought a set of reproduction vertical vanes for my Whale hovercraft ,as much as i'd like to stay with original parts these were just too hard to find .Has anyone else bought repro parts for their figures ,vehicles etc if so are they as good as the originals or better ?

i think that repos are great, the plastic is a bit harder and not as flexable but other then that they are great. i guess it also might depend on who casts the parts and what kind of resin or whatever they use to determine the quality of the plastic but other then that repos are the way to go to complete your figures or vehicles. i cant emagine shelling out the money on ebay for the original piece when in fact you could actually really be buying a repo. so i think that repos are a great way for collectors to complete there figs and at a descent price too.

yeah some are better than others but it all depends on who and how they do it. Your rolling the dice on it but can end up better than you started with.

What's the deal with the WHALE parts anyway? Should I be worried about breaking my originals???
I have no problem with repros. I'm looking for a set of repro STUN flags so I don't have to worry about the originals crumbling, as they're said to do.

As long as you are reasonably careful with the parts, and don't get redneck with them, they should be fine. Do be careful of the tiny pins, as there is just not a lot of material there for them to be that strong. The material I use for that stuff is rated at a shorehardness of around 90 to 95 D. That's about the same as a tractor trailer truck tire, just not as flexible.
As for detail, they are dead balls on, and that's the reason why I do different colors. There are unscrupulous folks out there (not that your one of them) who will buy parts from me or one of the other guys and sell them as originals to uneducated buyers. That's a bad situation for everyone concerned, so I do what I can to make sure it doesn't happen because of my negligence. As for painting them, you should be able to get very close with an out of the bottle/can color. Look specifically in the Tamiya Spray Colors and Polly Scale Military colors as those will most likely be the closest. Be sure to clean the cast parts up with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol before painting so it will stick as good as it can and a clearcoat probably wouldn't hurt either. The original plastic on these is the same stuff as the STUN flags and a lot of other more flexible parts. The WHALE parts in specific are just plain fragile because they are tiny little pins and joints used to hold together the entire assembly. Certain colors are worse than others (red/yellow/charcoal) about breaking with age, but I'll be working on most of the major stuff at some point. I'm going to be doing Tomahawk blades soon too. DP- I do have STUN flags available. Check the section "vintage vehicle parts" and see if I can't help you out. These are also cast out of the same material, so some common sense while handling is necessary, but they will make great replacements. Last edited by Alyosha; 06-26-2009 at 08:28 AM.. |

I got a wolverine toy rope from broken arrow toys. The tow rope is great same color as the og. one. And to top it off i did not include an apt. # on my shipping info the dude called me to get the apt #. Wins all the way around for broken arrow toys. I dont really like repos and every time i look at my wolverine i know something is wrong with it but i will live with it for now. But arrows repos stuff is great
