Hey guys. I have a situation with one of my auctions. I sold an item on ebay this week and the bidder payed through ebay (paypal) but for whatever reason he sent it to an email account that doesnt exist.
He said he didnt type in my address, and that it was automatic when he went to pay for it, but the email address he sent the money to was similar to mine (my [email protected]) minus two characters. I checked my ebay and paypal email account numerous times, and its fine. So, now I dont know who to contact to resolve this situation. The buyer insists that he paid me and that I should send him his item. I obviously dont have the money becuase its sent to some other address that doenst exist with paypal. Should I contact ebay...or paypal? The buyer says he sent the money to my paypal account listed with ebay and its out of his hands...so as far as hes concerned...hes paid up. How do I go about resolving this? |

The buyer in question should cancel the payment has it's been "unclaimed" (that is, if he really sent it).
He should then re-send the payment to the correct address. If he's not willing to do that, it would be safe to assume that he's trying to scam you. |

If it was me, I would contact Paypal and let them know immediately what's going on, get some advice from them...because if it's tied to your checking account, I've heard horror stories of people's checking accounts getting locked up (but I think those are people who are really screwing up).
Nevertheless, if the person is not listening to you, contact Paypal and also type your situation on the community forums. Thanks guys. I just realized what happened.....for whatever reason...I typed in my email address wrong with the item I listed. He sent them to that wrong address. I told him there was a problem and gave him my correct email address....but he said it wasnt his problem. Ill will try again. Thanks again. Sam

Try to talk it out, and tell him to cancel his first payment. If he refuses send him an ebay "unpaid item" strike.. Trust me he will pay you then.. eBay and paypal will be on your side since your correct email hasn't received any money. He should cancel and just resend. If not file a claim against him.

I agree with Redeemedsoul, try to talk it out with him, or give him a small discount for the trouble. You made the mistake by typing your email address incorrectly, the fault was not on him. If he then refuses to help correct the problem, contact Ebay, and Paypal to see if they can help by acting as an arbitrator. Good luck, and I hope it works out for you both in the end.

Open your hotmail account, create a secondary email account address (the wrong email that he sent the money to), connect it to paypal and the money should arrive. After you get the $$ cancel the second wrong email account.
I have done this once when the ebay buyer sent me the funds directly through paypal, not ebay and messed up my email. Its a quick 5 minute solution. |

the guy is being unreasonable. yes, you made a mistake, and it requires a little effort on his part to correct, but he has a contractual obligation to complete the purchase, so he can't just say tough luck. fact is, he may have sent payment, but he hasn't paid you -- which is what he is obligated to do. you caught the mistake and have asked for payment, of which now he is refusing, and why both ebay and paypal will be on your side.
