Only thing that seems like a really lucky coincidence is that Hasbro decided they wanted an all-black masked figure and Hama had already created a masked hero in Fury Force, both independently.

That is some awesome history right there.
One thing I've wondered for a very long time was which Ninja came first? Was Snake Eyes always meant to be revealed as the ninja master, or did the creation of Storm Shadow inspire the change? Was it Hasbro, or Larry who had this idea? |

Slightly OT, but I remember an interview in Toyfare where he says he was inspired by an old karate/kung fu movie where the main guy was a leper. So he was covered in white bandages while he fought, and that image was an inspiration for Storm Shadow.
But I've never been able to uncover the name of the movie he was talking about, nor do I know if the designers handed him the complete design of Storm Shadow as a white ninja with no backstory, or if Larry had any input on making his outfit white. Also, we discussed in a thread years ago that the movie Enter the Ninja absolutely had to be an inspiration cause it follows the SE/SS story very closely and predates it by years. There's even ninjas in white, red, and black! We all have heard the legend (true?) that Snake Eyes was only black to save on paint/production costs. I've never found a definitive answer for WHO is directly responsible for designing Storm Shadow. I've heard Russ Heath mentioned, but that would be just for an animation model, no? I'm talking the actual toy/character. |

I thought Ron Rudat designed every figure up until '86.
