Would put a web series together aimed at kids and collectors, just like Transformers. Introduce the upcoming figures with some sort of story fanfare.
Re-emphasis the environmental themed figures, try to plan releases with the seasons. Refocus the concept of war to heroics and what it would mean to be a GI JOE hero, ie. fire and rescue, police, ambulance. We got allot of this from 1985-1990, LifeLine, Alpine, Big Lob, all have extended specialist jobs and are very memorable. Make the toys approachable and desirable to kids. I would continue in the scale, sculpt but limit figures to less than 5 accessories, having the harness, jackets, guns sculpted back on. No modular guns, easily detached parts. Colors colors colors, Why does everything need to be black, green, blue or red or some gross grey? These are toys, the ones from the 80s were all pretty dynamic and colorful. Make the whole line inclusive, including woman, people of color. 2016 was a good year for this. Toys are a huge market for girls, why not try to include them into the fold. As the world becomes less binary it would make sense for GI JOE to reflect that. Scarlett should be the Snake Eyes of the new series. She even has a bow and arrow. : ) Wouldn't it be cool if GI JOE had a Jynn Erso, Hunger Games type female character? Engage in collector community through instagram, facebook, diorama, feedback.

Do character back stories through web apps You Tube to tell the origin stories and please pick non ninja one we know storm shadow and snake eyes. focus on the bad guys why did they turn out the way they are. Then do a mini series on Netflix or the Hulu to re-launch the brand live action or cartoon but look at the ways to reach people. For the movies please do be cute and all scify use the people to tell the stories of the characters and if you want the Rock as a new Joe then let him be the Rock it would be like having Sgt. Slaughter all over again. What do most people like about the Marvel movies the actors do not overshadow their characters they fit do the same with Joe.
I get having to bring kids in but if you look at what marvel has done having movies and cartoons for kids. I also think that bring back large play sets help the brand because kids and adults both want them. When I was a kid GI Joe and Star Wars could be used together when I played heck I even had fisher price toys I used kids do not care they just want to play. My son can have WWE and GI Joe and Star Wars all together and he just wants to play Hasbro embrace that build cool things that kids want and you will have customers for life. The problem isn't will kids like them. It's whether the parents will buy them or allow their kids to have them. A lot of parents don't like GI JOE because it promotes gun violence, or glorifies war, some parents think the military is evil. We're living in a war weary country. The military has very low recruitment and re enlistment. If it were up to kids, yeah they'd buy them every kid loves playing army, or GI JOE.
But the current culture probably is less enthusiastic about the military compared to the 80s. I think the event that really doomed the Joe franchise is when Disney bought out Star Wars. Hasbro is making a fortune selling stars wars toys with sloppy effort. The upcoming 40th anniversary line is a huge dissappointment of repacks and will still be a success at retail. |

Im sure the detractors are in a small minority, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I guess my point is they dont even need to market GI JOE to sell them. The old cartoon was a result of the popularity of the toy line, not the other way around. Keep in mind, we've been in a stagnant economic recovery the last 9 years or so. Some of the low sales most likely is a result of that, and not much else. 40 percent of Americans collect food stamps instead of GI JOEs.
Yeah Hasbro is just crapping the bed. They have a lackluster lineup with Star Wars. I like re packs for popular figures like r2, but Obi-Wan that just released is ridiculous. They gave up on SA 3.75, which is a big mistake in the long run. If the put joes on the shelf they'd sell themselves, but they wont because they want to focus on Transformers, and not cannibalize themselves. Last edited by Makeshift; 03-03-2017 at 04:07 PM.. |

I had a thought: We should have a writing campaign or something to get GI Joe included in internet memes and shows like "Death Battle" or "Epic Rap Battles of History."
We need to see more bits like Futurama's "GI Zapp" or "The Ballad of GI Joe." These kinds of things will not save the franchise in and of itself, but it would be a step towards keeping GI Joe present in pop culture |

A joe cartoon produced by Netflix would be a good idea.
